I'll keep it clean!
I was in sainsburys. Grabbing some lunch.
Felt a bit queasy and needed a toilet.
Went to the ladies.
Did what I had to do.
Gave my hands a good wash.
Didn't want to make my upset tummy any worse...
Dried my hands with the dryer. No choice here. And someone else had gone in so couldn't get loo roll.

All the time, while I am in there, a woman is chatting on her phone.

About taking her dog to the vet. Obviously not urgent, as she was telling the other person to book him in for Monday.

Mixed in with "sorry, I can't hear you, some idiot is washing/ drying their hands"

I didn't use both dryers together to make more noise. Honest.

There are only 2 toilets. I was as quick as I could be with stomach issues.

Sorry to the lady who was waiting when I came out.

I think you know the answer to this. She was rude.

And who the fuck talks on the phone in a bathroom?!

I don't think you need to justify washing and drying your hands. The only circumstances where I might not use a high powered dryer is if there's a baby present, mine hated it.

Dd will tolerate "slow" dryers.
But gets knocked over by the fast ones.

I was fairly sure I was right. But it was so bizarre I thought I should check I hadn't missed anything...?

YWNBU. You were using the facilities for what they are meant for. She should have used a quiet corner of the cafe for her phone call.

If I was on the other end of the phone I would have said 'eoooow, you're in the loo?!

I may not have been able to resist the temptation to grab her phone and drop it into a toilet. I hate the way phones turn people into entitled wankers.

You are awfully self controlled, OP.

I wouldn't have been able to resist the temptation to foghorn leghorn shout, "Yes, it's idiotic to wash/dry my hands in a TOILET, isn't it?"

And then kick her cubicle door on my way past for good measure. Blush

You showed admirable restraint and are an example to me us all.

I would have had to say something like: "Did you just call me an idiot?" and see how she justified herself...

Why on earth didn't you say something?! You cannot seriously have come in AIBU with this question, it's like asking if you were BU to put your shopping in a trolley rather than on your head, just nonsensical. Clearly she was a complete fool and you should have very clearly pointed this out to her at the time!

What? How dare you wash your hand and dry them in a public toilet while someone was trying to have a conversation. How rude of you, I hope you hung your head in shame. Only joking of course, SHE'S THE IDIOT! You should have called her on it, made her embarrassed.

You weren't the idiot in there.

Report
honeyroar · 24/06/2016 16:03

I hope you turned the second dryer on as you went out and stuck your tongue out at her as you went past!

I'd have been tempted to make some really good grunting, straining and farting noises, in response, come to think of it.

Madbengalmum · 24/06/2016 16:05

Sounds like the idiot was her!

Seriously??

I would have shouted, 'well we can all fucking hear you' as I swept out of the toilets kicking doors, leaving taps and setting all the hand dryers going as I left. (Well maybe not all those)

Report
originalmavis · 24/06/2016 16:14

I would have made a few loud wet fart noises for good measure .

AlpacaPicnic · 24/06/2016 16:17

If only you could have had a bout of noisy and protracted farting/shitting while you were in there.

Bet she wouldn't have carried on then.
Stupid cow. Her, not you.

JudyCoolibar · 24/06/2016 16:29

I'd have been tempted to say, very loudly, "No, what's idiotic is having a phone conversation in a toilet, isn't it?". And I would have made sure that I flushed a loo, washed and dried my hands over again and left the dryer running as I stalked out.

This would have justified a mobile enema, twice....

I did have lots of noisy farts and shits.

And I did use both the dryers. One for each hand.

Didn't say anything in case she blamed the next visitor who looked a bit frail.
