NC as this is outing... ish. I work at a school. The Reprographic Manager went on maternity leave. In her absence I covered part of her role (fixing photocopiers when jammed etc) the Repro Junior Tech still works there doing day to day stuff. Another manger took on part of the rest of the role for the period (orders, line management, etc) School subsequently made Repro Manager redundant. Now school expects me to take on the fault repair bit permanently no extra pay etc.

AIBU but is this not my 'job'? Confused

Really? How often does it jam? Ours jams all the time but takes about 2 mins to unjam....i wouldn't ask or expect a pay rise to unjam a copier!

maybe but op has a job to do.

imagine it jams several times a day and she has to sort it AND do her role.

Yanbu op.

If the school is large enough to employ a reprographic manager AND tech then I suspect there is a lot more than just one photocopier involved!

I have to sort them out most days. and now anything related to the MFPs is 'my' problem.

I'm guessing that there is more than one photocopier at the school.

there are circa 30 copiers in the school.

Is it linked to your job at all? Are you in any way facilities/admin or are you teaching? If it's the former I guess I would evaluate how much it adds to my working day and then suggest a pay rise accordingly.

Sorry if it's the latter I'd say no!

Are you in a school with the sort of staff who abandon a jammed photocopier because they 'don't have time' to follow on-screen unjamming instructions and then go and find another one to jam? ;-)

Don't think it sounds like a pay-worthy change (tho that depends on your role) although I would be pushing for tech to do it if it compromised own work - which being 'on call' around school presumably does.

Yanbu if there's that many copiers, no

It depends really on whether you have time to do this and your other job. If you just dislike this particular aspect then yes a bit unreasonable but of it means your other work is too hard to get through then no YANBU. I would probably be looking at communicating that it disturbs you from doing rest of your job. Is it possible to share the burden by perhaps being on call alternate days with the junior tech person? You would perhaps be better putting forward your own solution in order to resolve this.

I'd also look at your contract and talk to your union rep. I could see servicing 30 copiers being highly disruptive to your other role.

Yanbu. Shouldn't the Repro Junior be doing this?

YANBU. At all. I hate photocopiers, they hate me and I am rubbish at unjamming them. And the fancy multi purpose ones are always really glitchy and temperamental in my experience.

YANBU

It's additional duties

Either you are given more time, or more money to do it

If it has its own role then it's unreasonable to expect you to deal with it.

I'm loving that they made someone on ML redundant. Tells you all you need to know about then really.

I would ask a very simple question of my line manager: if it is now my responsibility to fix 30 photocopiers which part of my existing role can I drop?
