Err did you miss the rain last night and the ongoing high winds??

There are currently loads of places without power and they have to be dealt with by the highest number of homes first. UKPN are working very hard believe it or not!!

Power cuts are a part of life! We should all be able to cope in the event of power failure

You don't get warnings or letters

Weather was vile here this morning

We've had a few trees down locally, including s serious accident. The problem is that the trees are in full leaf at the moment.

met office wind warnings gusting 50/60mph. That is gale force. The strength of the wind has caught people, including myself, out.

What would you do differently had you been aware the winds were coming though?

Well there were no weather warnings here as of last night.

Power cuts might be part of life but its been happening far too often in some areas (see links) its not the 1970s.

As I say, the wind has been stronger than forecast.

I agree that power cuts happen too often, we have a UPS and a power cut kit because of too frequent power cuts. However today's are a symptom of heavily leafed trees making contact with power lines. Ideally they would all be cut back, but there is an awful lot of power line length and companies cut corners.

"companies cut corners"

Exactly.........and its become far too normalised.

Buy a generator then - problem solved!!

As a PP said what do you expect them to do to avoid strong winds. It's financially impossible to trim every tree along every power line. To do so would massively increase everyone's bills.

And I don't know how you missed it was going to be wet and windy last night ...
