Hey everyone, so sorry I know this isn't an AIBU but I have absolutely no experience with chicken pox and my DD3 has them and I really need help... We've had sore spots for 4 days straight now with no sign of much scabbing so been looking at things to help the process along as she's itchy like crazy, already tried antihistamine and calamine lotion so if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions it would be much appreciated!!! I have been told about the bicarbonate soda in the bath, how much do you use?? And she has ecszma aswell although it's quite controlled right now, will it be bad for her skin? Thanks everyone!!!

It's expensive but the pox clin foam works really well. DD has eczema and that really helped.

Avoid any type of steroid cream as it causes pox to spread.

Bicarbonate soda in the bath
Piriton for the itch
Calamine cream put on each spot every couple of hours
Nails short as if she scratches they scar

Hope your dd feels better soon

Virasoothe gel and Piriton (only at night as advised by GP as it made DS, then 18 months incredibly drowsy) were sanity savers in this house. And Calpol for fever.

Peskyelephant the only chance I had to run out today was this morning before DH had to leave for work, I did call round at my chemists and no one stocks it so lost my opportunity for today Sad DH did say he could pick up some later as he works near a boots who I do know stock it.

Handful of porridge oats in tights. Stick under running bath water and smoothe it over skin in bath.

Oat baths really helped my two. Put normal oats in the end of some old tights and tie it off. Hold in the running water as you run the bath (can hang it on the tap), then squeeze in the bath. Lots of milky looking stuff comes out. Use a jug to pour over any sporty bit of child that isn't submerged. We did some oat baths in the early hours of the morning!

Just sprinkle in the bath maybe 1/4 of tub

Mine didn't really suffer but I know bicarb baths or oat baths were perfect for a cousins wee one. She had them in her bits and the baths helped to soothe that area.

This might be a bit late for today but if they're still itchy tomorrow, I'd recommend calamine aqueous cream rather than lotion - it doesn't dry the skin out like the lotion does so we found it much better for relieving the the itching. And yy to pp's suggestion of oats in a stocking in the bath.
