AIBU?

I have just turned 40. Where am I supposed to be buying my clothes?

I like Monsoon but can't really afford it. And I like Marks and Spencers but apparently I am ten years too young for that? And I like NEXT but it is getting harder to find things that suit me there.

Can anyone help?

Don't let the man dictate where you should shop! Grin

...Oasis is nice though.

Another vote for Fat Face.

where you bought them when you were 39 or even in your thirties???
If you are looking for shops that might have things you like, why not try shops like Toast, the white company, whistles, jigsaw, poetry, Wrap london, White stuff, anthropologies and other stories. There is also Cos and Massimo dutti. These are all online. I think you shouldnt write off a shop just because of your age. I have found nice things in M&S and Monsoon and Next or even Topshop. Shop around. It is more to do with what you suit than your age.

Sainsburys for work...!! Their stuff seems to wash well and I do t care if it gets trashed...eBay for monsoon/Boden...m&s for staples...just discovered sea salt but again, provider than I would like...always have an eye out for sales and vouchers...

I find it amusing buying stuff from Topshop. I'm not quite 40 though perhaps I'll move onto M&S in 12 months time.

Lk Bennett has 40% off (sale started today). Buy some good staples, they make amazing jackets, very versatile. These are suit jackets but made of soft wool.

Then, look at saks, neiman Marcus (us stores), lots of sales all the time. Note: you need to pay custom duties on those.

Don't buy cheap stuff that you need to replace next year, buy classic clothes that are well made and last forever.

I have 15 year old suits that look new (grey, black etc).

Also, whatever you do, never ever buy polyester stuff. Cotton, silk and wool. And use dry cleaning. Groupon often does dry cleaning offers in London and other cities (£15 for £50 worth of dry cleaning etc).

I wish I could come and help you buy stuff, I actually do it for a lot of people (free of course).

Shop where you want to shop. I like Primark, H&M, Sports Direct. I like the young brands.

I am 53. My recent purchases are from: White Stuff, Next, Mango, Zara, Phase Eight, Cos and H&M. I am neither stylish or slim. I just buy what i like from wherever I see stuff. I am not a fan of Monsoon right now although i used to be.

I also used to buy a few things from seasalt. I do like some things from Boden and have shopped their on and off for years.

Don't change anything you've always done just because of your age. If anything go backwards! I'm 40 and I get genuinely thrilled buying from Topshop now & again (small things...)

Depends on your budget but Zara, Cos, Uniqlo for staples, & Other Stories are great.

Don't rule out M&S; they have some nice bits in Limited Edition, Alexa Chung and Autograph.

I'm heading towards 40, I shop anywhere! Mammoth shopping trip today (I tend to get it all done in as few trips as possible) that included gap, fat face, oasis, warehouse....and Miss Selfridge! That was particularly hilarious, haven't been in there for years, got a lovely jacket though. Shop where you please for as long as you please 👗

I'm 40 this year and I buy from Oasis, Joules, Boden, Crew Clothing. Love Mint Velvet but it's quite expensive

My jeans are NYDJ - which IMO are worth the money

Hobbs, whistles and jigsaw pricey but bargains can be found in the sales. Agree Monsoon is looking a bit dowdy atm. I still buy the odd thing from Top Shop much to my daughter's amusement.

Totally not on trend but I like Peacocks these days (37).

I like mint velvet for jeans and boots.
Phase eight for dresses.
Anywhere for tops.

I buy things in M&S but simple classic stuff. I like karen millien and lk bennett but they're expensive. I have my eye out on sticks for cheaper versions of what I really want

New Look, Matalan and Primark. Classy girl, me! I'm 47.

My last few purchases were from everything £5 though 😆

too many patterns in monsoon for me, but I like the odd thing from there. Their look is a bit gypsy/boho though. Not me.

There was a lovely single breasted navy coat from hobbs last winter, I didn't buy it, but if they have a similar version this winter i may because I'm still thinking about it (not today, in this heat but..... I haven't forgotten it!)
