To think this is too much to drink?

When sitting home alone:
3 cans of beer
1/4 to 1/2 bottle of red wine ( I'm not sure how much was left)
1/2 glass of Amaretto ( this was ridiculous it was at least 3 pub measures)

Yes. Too much on NHS guidelines. I feel uncomfortable drinking alone generally but suppose there's nothing inherently wrong with it.

Why do you ask?

If it's a regular thing yes. If it's occasional over a longish time period it's still over guidelines but I wouldn't overly worry.

Depends if it's a one off or a regular thing. I don't tend to drink when on my own but I'm sure others do

What do you mean by too much?

Too much because they're silly when drunk?

Too much because they're useless when hungover?

Too much Because they do it every night and you think they have an alcohol problem?

I could easily drink that in a night and probably do drink the equivalent every week to 10 days. So no, i don't think it's too much. It really depends why you do?

This is how much my husband appears to have put away last night while I was out. I was out for about 5 hours.

He was at home looking after our toddler and baby. I was furious when I came home and saw how much he had drunk and we had a blazing row. Just wondered what other people think.

It's about 14 units s the recommended weekly limit.

But ime a. Typical amount for a binge drinker to have on a social occasion.

It'd be normal on a night out as a one off,

When in charge of a baby and a toddler then far far too much.

He drank that much whilst in sole care of your children?

I don't think it's a big deal tbh. Or unusual. He's a grown man, he can get pissed if he wants

Over the course of an evening I don't think it's too much.

I don't think it's that much over the course of five hours. Unless of course he was paralytic when you got in.

I would also be fuming if my DH drunk that whilst in charge of my our baby

I don't think that was too much over 5 hours. 3 cans of beers,a glass of wine, and half a glass of amoretto.

I'd be having a furious row back at you.

Too much in sole charge of children.

suitsyousir79 · 27/05/2016 08:26

It depends how he handles it. I could have that much and not be that drunk (but obviously over the drink drive limit) however my DP would be on her back after just the amaretto. I have drunk that amount when left with my son, if you are all at home then realistically what is likely to happen? If a medical emergency came up, whether drunk or sober i would be calling 999. It largely depends on how he would be affected by it.

Too much when you're the only adult there caring for children. What the fuck was he planning to do if there was an emergency? Would he have been sober enough to recognise an emergency? Selfish eejit.

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/05/2016 08:28

Yes it's too much, especially as he wasn't doing it socially (with other adults) and was in sole charge of the children. Pretty irresponsible actually. Is it a regular thing or a one off? I can understand why you're angry.

Way too much with sole responsibility for DCs! On the v rare occasion I have drunk alone I haven't had more than a glass of wine so as to still be able to drive if there was an emergency.

On occasions DH has had drinks when got home and unable to help when trains go to crap - so annoying!

treaclesoda · 27/05/2016 08:34

I love a drink, but yeah. I think it's far too much for one person who is in sole charge of children to drink in five hours. I'd be having a blazing row too, and it's very very rare for me to say that, as I'm not the blazing row type.

Was he drunk? My husband might drink the amount if cans, but not add anything else. What your husband drank sounds like he was drinking anything he could find. That to me is the bigger problem.

Totally agree with suitsyousir. What would I do in an emergency? The same as I usually would, bar possible needing a taxi rather than driving although I wouldn't particularly count that as an emergency.

Not that it's likely to happen mind

Yes it's too much when you are looking after children alone. Of course it is.

We have an agreement that if one of us is out the other generally won't drink. Someone needs to take responsibility for the children and that amount of alcohol would reduce awareness too much to be able to respond to emergencies competently - just my opinion though!
