DS is 5; he doesn't have a bed. He doesn't need a bed and it really isn't in our budget for now. He had a crib which changed to a toddler bed, but he has outgrown that and one of the wooden planks snapped.

I had a friend round the other day, not an unusual thing, but had to use the bathroom upstairs and came down and said they thought our house was a 2 bed. It's a really small terrace and has a 2nd box room used for his toys.

He sleeps on our sofa. It's an L shaped one so seems huge to a 5 year old! He is well looked after, is clean, new clothes and is well loved and looked after. She thinks it's utterly bizarre and said its neglect. I think that's hurtful. he is more than happy and has never asked for a bed, but will be getting him one for his 6th birthday. AIBU to think this isn't neglect and has been a bit blown out of proportion? I have name changed as there is no need for people to link this thread to my regular username.
