YABU

It's not a one person event.

They say this, they're off the Xmas card list.

I'd say " we are expecting a baby" but def not "we are pregnant"

Alconleigh · 19/05/2016 22:14

Always sounds to me like a man trying to make out they are doing as much work to produce the baby. Er, no.

I can't stand it - so American.

It's impossible for the man to be pregnant.

"We're having a baby" Yes
"We're pregnant" No Hmm

I don't like it either, only the woman is pregnant, obviously, so only 'I'm pregnant' makes sense.

Twee and smug. Neither of which should be aspirational!

I don't mind "we are expecting". Not sure why?

Oh god I hate this. Really? Both of you? Even if you're a same sex FF couple, that's quite the coincidence. Medical marvels!

YANBU....it makes me swear every time I see it.

Oh are we, so you have vaginal examinations as well do you, no? Thought not.

I HATE it! The woman is pregnant the man is not! Simples!!

Only one of you will experience (possibly) morning sickness and all the other elements of pregnancy before getting to the stage where you can't sleep because bump is so big, you can't get comfortable in any position, you have to be pulled up out of a chair :) before eventually giving birth which most definitely only one of you will experience!

Once a lesbian on here used that phrase and I genuinely thought she and her wife had decided to do parallel pregnancies.

I was trying to be polite and helpful whilst thinking "you must be out of your minds! Both pregnant at the same time! Shock "

It was Blush when she realised my mistake.

But really it was her fault for being inaccurate ;)

I hate it too! My OH wouldn't dare say it 😂 ... Yes we're having a baby but it's me that's pregnant! Haha!

I don't understand why people are so easily offended.

Yanbu.
It's always the same type of person that says it.

Report
PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/05/2016 22:20

Meh, it's her body but their baby. However they refer to the pregnancy is up to them. I don't judge people for it.

I loathe it personally, makes me cringe whenever I hear it.

Hate it! It's up there with 'hubby' 'better half' and anything pre-fixed by 'mummy....'

Report
Hunstanton · 19/05/2016 22:22

Yup, really really irritating.

Just simply an annoying phrase. Yes it was a 2 person event to conceive, but only one of you is carrying/will deliver FFS!

YANBU op. Hate this expression with a passion.

Anyone gleefully announcing 'we're pregnant' should be shot. Instantly. Or have their baby removed at birth. Or be cast forever into a pit of writhing snakes. No couple willing to spout such unutterable shite should be allowed to breed. Ever. End of.

Can you tell this expression gives me the rage? Grin
