AIBU to be angry at parent who parks her car in bay for disabled drivers?

Just outside the school. She doesn't have a disability, no blue badge, child no disability (he is in ds' class so I know he doesn't). I have spoken to the school and no action was taken (don't know what they could do really). Is it just me or is this just completely unacceptable?

The parent in question parks in that bay at pick up nearly every day, only for a few minutes but it stops other parents/grandparents with a blue badge from parking there. AIBU to want to do something about it? But what...

Is it on school property or the road?

If it's on school property, it's up to the school to do something of they want to.

If it's on the road, call parking control at your local council.

Parking on the street, not school property.

I am 99.9% sure the child has no disability. If the child would have a disability, would the carer/parent have a blue badge for the car?

I am 100% sure that we have children, parents and grandparents who have disabilities and who would use the bay if it was available.

If it is then it's there as a courtesy. It isn't enforceable.

We have a parent parks in the high school carpark disabled bay,( each day up to half hour before pick up, no blue badge, no disabilities (I know her) and kids no disabilities.
Every day same space, scowls at anyone who happens to park next to her (with a blue badge btw)
Why? Can only assume because shes lazy and entitled as said space is nearest to the school doors for kids coming out.

Why can't the school do anything? That's pathetic. When that happened at our school, the Head put a stern notice in the school newsletter. And I wouldn't be surprised if the person was told in person that they weren't allowed to use that space.

I'd go back to the school and make a fuss.

I have s child with a disability and she's had a blue badge since she was two.

If it were me I'd recruit a friend, box her in both ends then take the kids to the park for half an hour after school. But I'm petty like that.

Fanjo I hardly indicated that it was acceptable to use a disabled space if not entitled to it.

My point was is that nobody can force the parent to stop. The school can put out a letter but the type of person who uses disabled spaces when they shouldn't is hardly likely to care.

Parking control can't do anything.

The school spaces can be enforced by the council, it's not private property, I had a number of parents stopped from entering school premises last year and the year before because they kept abusing said spaces.

Actually soapbox I really don't know. The school was a bog standard sixth form run by the LEA.

no idea but I saw my new favourite traffic warden ticket FIFTEEN I counted because I was bored parents today for parking on double yellows and half on the pavement.

I would've high fived him but a parent was ranting and yelling about getting a ticket even though she had parked illegally.

6 clearly marked bays.last week i counted 2 had blue badges the rest none

saw head teacher and mentioned it,he said nothing can be done (dosent want a confrontation more like)

We have 2 blue badge bays outside of DS's school. They are regularly taken up by cars with no badge. There is a Mum who has an obvious disability (uses crutches) and a blue badge. When she can't park in one of those spaces, she waits for the driver's to return and (rightly so) absolutely tears a strip off them. She is awesome, and we rarely see repeat offenders.
You could do with someone similar, OP.

There is a madness that descends on parents when they are doing the school run - we nearly failed to get planning permission for a much needed new school here because of the current schools parent's atrocious and illegal parking - in disabled spaces, on the pavement, double yellow lines, blocking residents entrances and dropped kerbs and one day parking in the entrance to the school car par so noone could get out......all so they dont have to walk the extra 5 minutes from the car par (which they get a free permit to park in!)

I have blocked people into the disabled bays at my leisure centre. I display my badge and inform the reception desk that I will be an hour. I had to stop when I got a new car as was afraid for the paintwork.

This makes me furious because nobody bloody enforces the rules. However, on the public highway it is under the remit of the parking wardens or police. Sending photos to the relevant authorities might elicit a visit at the appropriate time. If you could be bothered.

No BB, no excuse for being there IMO.

The school CAN do something if it's on school grounds - my DDs old school used to name and shame offenders in the school newsletter as well as having a word with them when they returned to their car.

More difficult if it's a public road but the council could send a warden if it's a proper space. If it's a disabled bay with no official signage then it's a courtesy space so not enforceable but sometimes being called out on inconsiderate parking can have an effect.

Otherwise block them in - I did that once and it was incredibly satisfying
