AIBU?

AIBU to be fuming that my Year 5 daughter's class has been branded ?

So my 9 year old DD came home today and told me that after her TA (who is white) struggled to get the attention of the class, she suggested to them that they must all be racist. The TA explained that the only reason why they weren't listening to her was because she is white. Out of 30 children, only one child is white. The class teacher is black but was not in the classroom. AIBU to be fuming at this?

Eh?

There are no people who work in education or have a modicum of intelligence think this

Unless the TA was joking badly this is not serious

I'm more concerned about how your thread is still standing.

she didnt listen to her teacher based on her skin colour- thats the racist bit

Hi Ebony69. Yes you should be fuming, the TA is totally out of order. What on earth does the colour of pupils' skin have to do with her ability to control a class?

This is absolutely serious. I didn't believe it either and had to ask my DD to repeat it a few times to make sure I understood the context. I have no time or inclination to fabricate stories for attention.

Thank you, Vix. I saw it as an indication that she was out of her depth in the class. From my DD's description the class were bemused by her comment.

I think people are reading this wrong. I think the op is saying the ta told the class they were racist for not listening to her, I don't think the dd said anything. Unless I've misunderstood.

are we being invaded?

OP, this account has come from your dd. What did she say the TA actually said?

No question about it araiba - the only real disappointment is the intellectual calibre of the invaders.

So your DD along with pretty much all of the class are non white and thevTA is white. The TA was struggling to get the children to listen to her and suggested to the children that they had no respect for her because she is white. Have I got that correct. Because if it's true that's shocking.

The TA explained that the only reason why they weren't listening to her was because she is white.

I'd be very surprised if that was what the TA actually said.

The TA was out of order, so out of order!

I say this as a parent who has a child who is white and has been accused of racism for an innocent remark!

Is this a reverse?

So how I understand it, in a class of black children and black teacher, the white TA accused th class of being racist, because they weren't listening to her, because she is white.

I think that's deplorable on two counts.

  1. the ta is accusing the class of being racist
  2. the ta was unable,to control the class

*Draenor, she said that the class were talking and that the TA told them that she can only think that they're racist against her as that must be the only reason why they're not listening. Of course this is a child's interpretation but my daughter is unlikely to be making up.

Try harder. The same sort of troll thread was posted yesterday. Racism in primary school, blah blah.

Next.
