So my 9 year old DD came home today and told me that after her TA (who is white) struggled to get the attention of the class, she suggested to them that they must all be racist. The TA explained that the only reason why they weren't listening to her was because she is white. Out of 30 children, only one child is white. The class teacher is black but was not in the classroom. AIBU to be fuming at this?

biscuit HTH

araiba Tue 10-May-16 21:32:56

yes, you should be fuming you raised a racist child- she must have got it from somewhere...

DraenorQueen Tue 10-May-16 21:33:57

Sigh...

Ebony69 Tue 10-May-16 21:39:20

Araiba, How is my child racist?

Tiggeryoubastard Tue 10-May-16 21:40:21

Yawn.

LaurieFairyCake Tue 10-May-16 21:41:31

Eh?

There are no people who work in education or have a modicum of intelligence think this

Unless the TA was joking badly this is not serious

DraenorQueen Tue 10-May-16 21:42:10

How is my child racist?
I'm more concerned about how your thread is still standing.

araiba Tue 10-May-16 21:42:15

she didnt listen to her teacher based on her skin colour- thats the racist bit

vixwest Tue 10-May-16 21:43:37

Hi Ebony69. Yes you should be fuming, the TA is totally out of order. What on earth does the colour of pupils' skin have to do with her ability to control a class?

Ebony69 Tue 10-May-16 21:44:04

This is absolutely serious. I didn't believe it either and had to ask my DD to repeat it a few times to make sure I understood the context. I have no time or inclination to fabricate stories for attention.

IThinkIMadeYouUpInsideMyHead Tue 10-May-16 21:44:21

"Branded" like cattle or tabloid journalists?

TheoriginalLEM Tue 10-May-16 21:45:16

have my 100th biscuit

Ebony69 Tue 10-May-16 21:46:45

Thank you, Vix. I saw it as an indication that she was out of her depth in the class. From my DD's description the class were bemused by her comment.

arethereanyleftatall Tue 10-May-16 21:46:48

I think people are reading this wrong. I think the op is saying the ta told the class they were racist for not listening to her, I don't think the dd said anything. Unless I've misunderstood.

araiba Tue 10-May-16 21:47:01

are we being invaded?

DraenorQueen Tue 10-May-16 21:48:08

OP, this account has come from your dd. What did she say the TA actually said?

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat Tue 10-May-16 21:48:27

No question about it araiba - the only real disappointment is the intellectual calibre of the invaders.

bearleftmonkeyright Tue 10-May-16 21:49:19

So your DD along with pretty much all of the class are non white and thevTA is white. The TA was struggling to get the children to listen to her and suggested to the children that they had no respect for her because she is white. Have I got that correct. Because if it's true that's shocking.

PurpleDaisies Tue 10-May-16 21:49:51

The TA explained that the only reason why they weren't listening to her was because she is white.

I'd be very surprised if that was what the TA actually said.

MammaTJ Tue 10-May-16 21:51:28

The TA was out of order, so out of order!

I say this as a parent who has a child who is white and has been accused of racism for an innocent remark!

ALemonyPea Tue 10-May-16 21:52:43

Is this a reverse?

228agreenend Tue 10-May-16 21:53:24

So how I understand it, in a class of black children and black teacher, the white TA accused th class of being racist, because they weren't listening to her, because she is white.

I think that's deplorable on two counts.
1) the ta is accusing the class of being racist
2) the ta was unable,to control the class

Alisvolatpropiis Tue 10-May-16 21:54:01

hmm

Ebony69 Tue 10-May-16 21:55:09

*Draenor, she said that the class were talking and that the TA told them that she can only think that they're racist against her as that must be the only reason why they're not listening. Of course this is a child's interpretation but my daughter is unlikely to be making up.
