AIBU?

To ask a 17yo student if she minds being in the house alone for a weekend

We will have a 17 yo French girl lodging with us for a month in the summer. She will be paying for her board and working at a local restaurant to improve her English before she starts uni in Sept. I was hoping to book a family weekend away but the only time we can go (we do Airbnb in our house and most weekends are booked up already) is in the middle of her stay. AIBU to ask her (all contact has been via email, she is a family friend of a friend) whether she minds being left in the house on her own for a weekend? I think it would

Argh, 2yo grabbed my phone and it posted too early. I was going to end by saying I think it would be unfair to ask her and put her in an awkward position but I don't know if I'm being unnecessarily delicate towards her?

I'd email to check. She'll probably be thrilled to have the house to herself!

I'd just ask. She's nearly an adult.

Will she be left with Airbnb strangers or literally on her own?

No, there wouldn't be any Airbnb guests on our absence. Thanks for all the responses, that's helpful.

If it were me I'd let her know when I was going away and I'd probably leave 10-20 quite for her to treat herself to a takeaway on one of the nights.

Of course it's fine, she's 17 and won't expect you to be there to babysit her.

Ask your neighbours to keep an eye out and let the student know she can knock on their door if she has any problems. Alternatively if you know of another 17 year old student you could ask for them to stay tokeep her company.

She's a lodger? Not an exchange student? Yeah, i think it's fair enough to leave her, but i'd let her know now.
