Hello lovely Mumsneters,
I would like to pick you brains. I'm posting on AIBU because of traffic. 😊
My husband is going to be best man my one of our dear friend's, he would like to surprise the bride and groom with something nice on there wedding day.
But we can't really work out what to do.
So we are looking for inspiration.
Did your best men do anything nice for you on your wedding day?
Anybody got any ideas about what he can do?
TIA xx

Book a really fancy car to take them to the wedding reception? Hire a band to play their favourite song? Upgrade their wedding night hotel to something fancier?

Depending on budget but... A wedding we once went to the Best Man hired a DB7 for the b&g to get from the church to to the reception.

Bottle of champagne for them to drink in back of car from church to reception - I would have loved that!

Maybe a little basket for afterwards/day after full of treats? They might be too busy on the actual day to appreciate it fully.

Can you borrow a nice camera and a portable photo printer? I took a multi-photo frame to SIL's wedding, took lots of photos and filled it on the day to give to the B&G.

DH's best man hired a car to take them to the venue.

It's a lovely idea but as a control freak bridezilla with a clipboard I'd have hated any unplanned surprises on my wedding day, sorry! However DH's best man had them picked up to the venue in a very flash car which he loved.
The other idea is how about a night or weekend away after the wedding as a surprise?

Budget wise probably about £200. But will go up if it 's a really cool idea. Loving all of these ideas, please keep them coming 😄

My dp has spent a lot of time living in Germany when its common to have a wedding newspaper. So when he was best man for his best mate he we created a newspaper with interviews with different people, childhood photos, "reports" on the stag and hens. We had loads of copies printed and gave them one the night before. They loved it and we gave them out in the slight lull after wedding breakfast when the room was changed around.

If they've hired a photographer please don't do instant prints on day, when you're setting up pics and someone is leaning over you to get their shot and then hands over an album that's been printed in an instant booth at boots it leaves a sour taste (voice of experience) ruins surprise of shots and royally pisses off photographer who will have spent a lot on training and equipment and learning about posing and lighting.

My step dad took a printer to my wedding and printed a pic of me and DH at the church, popped it into a frame and had it put in our room. It was lovely.

What about one of those things where the "waiters" are all actually opera singers or something and launch into a big number / the b&gs "song" at the meal (or in the church like in 4 weddings (I think)

My lovely bil is getting married this year. He hates surprises more than me so we're doing a wedding box for them to open on their last morning together before they actually get married. He's Welsh his partner is French so we're putting things in like a miniature Welsh whisky, a carved love spoon, silly socks etc...

A friend had personalised Mr and Mrs Napqueen pillowcases made up for us and the hotel put them on our pillows for when we went to our room.

A bottle of champagne to their home exactly one month after their wedding, when they are home from their honeymoon and have been back at work for a while.

If they're having a honeymoon could you contact the hotel and arrange a bottle of something nice and a message to Mr & Mrs X wishing them a fabulous time and how lovely the day was? I think something after the day is nice as there is so much else going on and it prolongs the loveliness!

Our families surprised us by buying an upgrade to our hotel room on the wedding night and it was wonderful :) Comletely unexpected and just added to the joy.

This may out me, but hey ho. When my sister got married (they're both huge f1 fans) I wrote to their favourite f1 team and the team principal (Sir Frank Williams no less!) sent a lovely personal letter which we managed to keep quiet from them, then the best man read it out as "one of the cards" during his speech. Their faces were an absolute picture! It was brilliant!

A lot time ago but our best man surprised us by paying for our hotel room in advance. Totally unexpected and much appreciated

I went to a wedding where all the guests did a flash mob dance!!!
The best mans wife emailed us all an "training video". There was a pre arranged signal.
It was amazing ... In the courtyard a manor house during the welcome drinks.

The couple could not believe how guests who had travelled from the 4 corners of the world pulled it off. It was set to a song which had meaning for them.

I was starving at the end of my wedding, maybe have snacks and drinks in their room for after?

Peanutbutter sorry if you've been upset by someone doing that but I've done it twice and both times it was appreciated. We didn't get in the way of the pro photographer, we certainly didn't "steal his shots" we took the photos we needed once he was finished, they were very informal and unobtrusive. So no surprises spoilt as the pro photos are taken earlier in the day.

If they're into anything sci-fi how about asking around for a stormtrooper guard of honour, or a greeting when they come out of the service by Darth Vader or a Dalek or something along those lines. Grin
