AIBU?

To ask a slightly disgusting question re. your toilet habits?

Don't read if eating.

Well DH and I have a disagreement.

I say if you need a poo, you need a poo...well I do anyway...there's no waiting about it. Personally I have to go immediately.

He says he can decide when to go...he knows "I need a poo" but can choose to wait sometimes for hours.

I say he's caused himself issues in this department by waiting habitually...which he does regularly.

He has all kinds of digestive problems including wind, diarrhoea and constipation.

He says these issues are simply because he has food sensitivities...he MAY but won't get that checked out...I say if he would listen to his body and poo when it wants to...then a lot would be sorted out.

I'm with you OP. When I need to go, I need to go as soon as possible. And feel very lucky to work from home so it's not an issue Smile

UmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2016 01:05

What is your question?

MattDillonsPants · 07/05/2016 01:05

Me too! I work from home but even when I'm not at home, I just find somewhere to go!

milkbottle · 07/05/2016 01:06

Sometimes I need to go ASAP and sometimes I could wait all day!

beckywiththemehhair · 07/05/2016 01:06

And I'm not a doctor but I can't imagine it's too healthy to keep it in as long as you say your DH does Shock

milkbottle · 07/05/2016 01:06

Surely it is obvious, Umbongo?

UmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2016 01:08

No Blush sorry I'm not a native English speaker I'm finding it hard to figure out what your question is.

UmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2016 01:08

Which is a shame as I love a good poo chat.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/05/2016 01:08

But if you need a poo but can't go for a while, you're in town, wait until you get home then poo. But sometimes you wait too long and it disappears!
I thought this was going to be about time taking to do it. DH is looooong and protests that it's not just because he's reading/pissing about on his phone but actual activity. I'm in and out unless there's a problem but even then a quarter of the time he takes.

beckywiththemehhair · 07/05/2016 01:11

I mean, seriously, hours...?! Hmm
Never heard of anyone getting any medals for poo holding.

milkbottle · 07/05/2016 01:12

Sorry Umbongo! I think OP is just asking whether people agree with her or her husband.

beckywiththemehhair · 07/05/2016 01:12

Only because he sounds like he's proud of it from your post.

MattDillonsPants · 07/05/2016 01:13

Middle in town, I would find a public toilet and poo there! It's obviously not as comfortable as doing it at home, but to leave it there? That's worse!

Yes...he waits hours.

I can't imagine why. I have suggested that he simply does it....I reckon he had issues as a child and they've followed him.

UmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2016 01:14

milkbottle it's ok haha I've studied it some more!

Ummm I agree with your husband. I think if you can't hold it in then surely there something wrong with you?

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 07/05/2016 01:14

I'm more like your DH. It's rare that I have to go urgently. And when I'm somewhere unfamiliar my bowels go on lockdown, I've been known to go for days without going. My 'need a poo' switch goes as soon as I walk in my own front door in those situations.

UmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2016 01:15

And I could never poo on a public toilet Shock

MiddleClassProblem · 07/05/2016 01:15

Oh no, I couldn't do it in a public loo unless it was urgent, urgent. No way too self conscious for that one.

beckywiththemehhair · 07/05/2016 01:17

you might be onto something there matt Wink

MattDillonsPants · 07/05/2016 01:19

Umbongo Well I CAN hold it in but I don't CHOOSE to. It's not a case of being unable to but the sensation is very uncomfortable.

I think it's weird that he doesn't go when he COULD go.

As to being self conscious to use a public loo..really? What if you had hours...and had to go?

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 07/05/2016 01:22

Couldn't go at a friends house either.

Junosmum · 07/05/2016 01:22

I used to be able to hold it, so I'd very very rarely have to poo at work or in a public toilet (as in I can count on one hand when I've done it). However since having DS 4 months ago I'm unable to hold it more than the time needed to walk upstairs to my loo. I'm finding it very disconcerting.

Storminateapot · 07/05/2016 01:23

When I need to go I need to go. Had a curry last night and had to make an unusually early school drop-off for a trip. Whilst going on for a quick early hour weekend shop afterwards, I had to tensely scuttle down a couple of aisles before crouching down to closely examine some bleach options before resettling my system enough to complete my shop, load the car, before using their loo! Close run thing though!!

Ok well everyone is different. It's not uncomfortable for me.
And I'm not self conscious to use a public toilet, o just think it's a bit gross.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/05/2016 01:23

I will hold a poo because I'm funny about where I feel like I am comfortable pooing - i get constipated when i go away or am in hospital. I once came home from hospital for an hour just to go for a poo. I hadn't been able to go for days and I went within 5 mins of letting myself in.

I don't always go IMMEDIATELY at home - like 'Oh I need a poo, I'll go when I've had this cup of tea or typed this post or when this episode finishes'

FutureGadgetsLab · 07/05/2016 01:24

I'm with your DH. I can choose when I poo.
