AIBU?

AIBU to think when I'm running you shouldn't throw water over me

Went running yesterday, next to traffic. I was aware of a red van next to me and the occupants shouted at me, I blanked them and carried on running. When the van caught up with me (due to traffic) as they drove past they threw water at me.
I was left feeling quite upset

Totally bizarre thing to do. Why would anyone do that? No wonder you're upset.

Same mentality as the two young males who slowed the car (I thought they were going to ask for directions) and the passenger SPAT on me.
I nearly cried, I was so Angry and Shock

Wow! I would report that to the community warden (if there is one). What a horrible thing to do! Sad

I was walking home after work one day and some VanTwats threw a milkshake at me.

I always assumed it was because I'm fat. Maybe not... Maybe twats are equal opportunities twats?..

This is what I hate about running, why do people assume that you're fair game? I've given up now because I can't hack the unwanted comments etc. I had a car full of men pull up alongside me and helpfully inform me 'your boobs are wobbling.' Then a father and son drove past another time and the dad beeped the horn as the son (who was about 8!) shouted 'oi oi' out the window at me. Charming!

When I was a teenager I was walking home from school, the school bus went past and suddenly I had a pot of yogurt on my head.

Some people are just truly nasty. YANBU to be upset. I'm sorry this happened to you - hope it doesn't discourage you from running!

When I was 16 I remember a group of lads in a car threw mud at the back of my head. They pre planned what they were going do :( always men eh but women are the ultimate 'bitches'

Twattish thing to do, but nothing surprises me anymore. I try to run at the quietest times of day, never during peak traffic times to avoid:-

  • cars pulling up alongside me, sounding their horn to make me jump
  • people stopping and asking where they are on a map, like I'm some convenient satnav on legs,
  • cars soaking me by driving deliberately thru a puddle esp when it's raining
  • men shouting abuse at me

People are just jealous, because we're out there doing something we enjoy and keeping fit.

No wonder you're upset. I run too and usually on busy roads (I run in the evenings so don't like to go off the beaten track for safety reasons) and have had comments and things shouted. Drivers also like to deliberately splash you when it's raining, I've had that loads.

Not that it matters but I'm not overweight so I think they are, indeed, equal opportunity twats.

If you get spat on, it's sometimes possible for the police to get DNA from it, so don't wash clothes straight away. In some jobs facing the public, where this is a problem, the staff are issued with "DNA spit kits".

This is why I am thinking of stopping road running. I am fed up of, both men and women, feeling the need to comment.

My friend goes with her husband, she gets none of this shit.

You should post these stories (anonymously) on everydaysexism.com/

Lots of men have no idea about the shit that women have to put up with. So there's no social pressure to change behaviour.

Once had a car full of scum throw a couple of eggs at us as we were walking. I felt something hit my back and was distracted from getting the number plate.

As Regina says,,, their parents must be proud... Problem is that some probably would be proud.

I've given up running outside because of shit like this.
I just ended up feeling exposed and frightened rather than enjoying it :(

I was walking my 8 yr old DD home from school at the time ☹️☹️

Ugh. I was out running once and had eggs thrown at me. Often I get tw@ts in vans beeping horns and shouting out of rolled-down windows...

It's dangerous, that's not ok.

I run regularly around the park and once there was a small group of secondary school aged kids (3 of them about 15) and as I ran passed them, one of them purposefully stepped out in front of me and shouted in face, they thought it was hilarious when I jumped to avoid them and twisted my ankle.

I am trying to join my local tuning club now but there is a long waiting list!

I was walking to the cinema the day before my 19th birthday, after going to visit my dying grandad, feeling quite sad, but looking forward to seeing a nice film with my best friend to take my mind off things, when half a bottle of ribena hit me in the face, hitting my glasses and knocking them sideways and really really hurting the side the bottle hit, and my nose where my glasses had knocked it. I very very nearly just burst into tears and gave up on everything there and then. But then I realised they are just bastards and I wasn't going to let them win!

I'm sorry this happened to you. My friend's husband was cycling to work when a car slowed down next to him and the passenger just reached out and pushed him off his bike causing him some quite serious injuries.

I was so happy when we moved out of town to a rural location where I could run on tracks without being harassed by mem and boys.I feel so sorry for my 14 yo daughter who has long blond hair , tiny waist and womanly hips getting so much pipping and comments from passing motorists
