Should Disney have a same sex couple?

Just getting views.

This is something I feel like Disney movies should have.

Being in a same sex couple is nothing to hide from children.

Agree.

Yes most definitely. Why not, it is part of life. My DDs and most children I know don't blink an eyelid at same sex couples. As it should be.

why are you getting views?
maybe a disabled person too.....not a super clever one.....just a disabled one

Why should 'Disney' have to be a role model for every life scenario tho??

Sure, I don't think it's any different in my book.

Yes why not, but it took them so long to have a black heroine that I wouldn't hold my breath.

Disabled is good too. As are mixed race couples. All part of the variety of life. Could be done easily, without a big fanfare highlighting the 'difference'. Just make the characters gay, disabled etc.

No. We need to stop forcing these things down young childrens throats. Totally unnecessary.

Disney is a powerful message to our children.

I hope you're joking, Afro!

Yep, instilling an understanding of diversity early is a good thing. But then I am a raging leftie

There's a brief flash of a same sex couple in Frozen. The male shopkeeper has a Husband and adopted children.

The most successful Disney films have been the ones, whose stories/legends/fairy tails already exist. There's no old tails featuring same sex couples and its denied across a lot of cultures that homosexuality was a norm and encouraged/accepted.

They did well with Frozen, but I don't know if they make such a contrived senario work.

There's s lot of work needed to be done, to undo the years of and ongoing sexism in Disney and other such animated films (unlike Anime).

I don't think they're anywhere near ready to pull off such a film, without it relying on Stereotypes, further, or making it a Male same sex couple and once again, sexism features throughout.

Yes. And because I think as such an influence on children they should mirror on life in a positive way.

But I can't imagine the throwback they'd get from fundamental religious groups.

Paranorman had the first openly gay character...

But I guess it was less risky for them than Disney

That's another point - the coupling up of characters based on ethnicity in virtually everything has always driven me nuts

Afro it's not about forcing these things, it about making diversity and equality normal.

Why shouldn't Elsa meet a women and get married.

I think it would be good.

My dd1 is 6 and sees same sex couples as a normal part of real life, knows that marriage is for anyone. But I can't think of a single programme aimed at kids that has a same sex relationship in it.

birds surely they've run out of classic fairytales now, though? Which is why Frozen etc have come about. They're able to make more 'edgy' (or just different) stories because we are slowly becoming more accepting

But isn't Disney all about the idealistic view though? It tends to steer away from reality!

You've got to realise that the spin off merchandise is designed along side it.

Considering all 'Disney Princesses' are sexed up, even figurines of Tinker-bell, there isn't going to be true diversity, look what they did to Merida, she became a standard sex goddess.

Notamummy wouldn't it be nice if heterosexual couples weren't seen as the ideal though? Rather that two people were happy together whatever their sex?

SAMCRO ( sorry for caps)

Because there has never been 2 queens running a country.

Nemo had a disability and they did that without making it a big deal or main part of the plot. I'm fairly sure they have had inter species relationships (I'm sure Goofy and Clarabel get up to no good) which makes no sense why that would be more acceptable than a homosexual relationship.

I thought frozen was (very) loosely based on the snow queen

Why not? They have incest. (Have a good think about The Lion King.)
