AIBU?

AIBU to postpone my job interview?

Dakin1 · 05/05/2016 13:52

I have a job interview tomorrow morning at 9.30am. It's the third and final interview and I think I am the only candidate they are seeing.

The job sounds amazing and I really want it. DP recently unemplyed so we really need the money too.

BUT today I have come down with a horrendous stomach bug. DP and DC both had it recently and it lasted a few days. I thought I had escaped it but clearly not.

WIBU to give the recruitment consultant a heads up and say I may need to postpone?

DP says to dose up on immodium and force myself to go as it would make a bad impression to postpone. I think it is better to postpone than run out to the loo half way through the interview.

Advice please?!

I'd attempt to postpone - even dosed up with Imodium you're not going to be firing on all cylinders so probably won't give a great interview.

I would phone and explain- could be they'd prefer you not to go in sick either!

Definitely postpone! This happened to me on the first day of a new job once...had to call in sick - felt ridiculous but it was the right thing to do and soon forgotten. Postponing is much more acceptable than puking in the interview Shock

Oh okay great - the consensus is to postpone! What a relief. Should I call the RC now or wait and see how I feel later today? The morning will be too short notice.

Oh no! Just called the RC, apparently one of the interviewers has already FLOWN from another country to attend the interview. She was sympathetic and said she can let them know I'm not feeling great but I really should attend otherwise they will open the job up again to other candidates. Could actually cry :(

A lot can happen, health wise between now and tomorrow morning.
I'm sure you are prepped and need to know what you need to know for your interview which means you just need to concentrate on yourself and getting better.
Get everything prepared now. eg outfit, any papers or notes you need to take so you are not worrying about them and then rest.
Take what you need to,plenty of rest and drink lots of water.
Good luck. Hopefully you will feel miles better tomorrow.

Oh god, that sounds really difficult, but also like you must go, regardless of the possibility of throwing up, or feeling like rubbish. I hope it goes well for you, and you get the job and can celebrate tomorrow evening when you start feeling better.

Wishing you all the best for your interview OP, if it's any consolation I was ill with a sickness bug on Tuesday evening and felt half human the day after so there is hope!

I'm sure they will understand that you're ill

Thank you so much for the kind words and advice. Thanks Rosie for the tip about the comfort break, even though it's embarrassing I guess if I am not feeling well in the morning and warn them at the start then it's good to know I can make a quick exit.
Just off to the chemist to buy immodium and a bottle of water. DD just found my freshly iron interview shirt and started chewing the sleeve so need to buy a new top too. Aaargh!

Thank you so much! I have a new top and and had a good glug of Pepto Bismol and don't feel so ill. Just nervous. I should find out tomorrow if I have been successful so will let you know!

Good luck!

It's a shame they couldn't postpone in this situation, but at least you tried.

Yes to previous suggestions of making a mental note where the loo is and asking for a comfort break if you start to feel dodgy. Maybe embarrassing but a million times better than throwing up at their feet! Take mints or mouthwash so you can freshen up if you have to be sick. And yes to pp saying take perfume

Keep hydrated, try and get as much sleep as you can tonight, dose up on Imodium and hope for the best.

You are all so kind. Thank you for the good wishes, it's a welcome distraction from the nausea and cramps. Can't wait to get the interview over and done with.

I'd kept the Imodium till tomorrow. I took it with a stomach bug as I had to be in work. I was desperately ill with it, best to let as much of the big out now as you can. Good luck!

Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure you will be fine!
The nauseous feeling now could be stress/nerves about tomorrow

Thanks so much everyone. Been awake since 5 dashing to and from the bathroom. Hopefully dry toast and Imodium for breakfast will see me through the interview. 3 hours to go!
