AIBU?

About an unwashed load of laundry.

OH working from home today, asked him to hang out the load of washing that was in the machine. He did so, all was well.
We're just getting ready for bed and I was putting the dry clothes away. We have no window coverings yet in our bedroom and a bright streetlight outside, and we live in a busy area. So at night we tend to leave the bedroom light off when we are getting ready for bed, as its bright enough to see what we are doing and we aren't lit up for everyone outside to see.
Even in this low light, I sort of had a feeling something wasn't right. The clothes felt a bit ... Soft, and not freshly cleaned. As I reached the end of my folding, the penny dropped and I went through to ask OH if the clothes had been wet when he'd taken them out. "No" was the answer, though some items were a bit damp.
The machine hadn't run. And I'd just filled our drawers with dirty clothes that had been sitting in with a wet towel that we used to dry the dog after his bath. AngryEnvySad We use soap nuts so our laundry doesn't come out scented - it just sort of smells like nothing, so the lack of washing powder smell didn't tip me off. But even in the dark I could tell ----eventually that clothes weren't clean!
I know it's my fault as I told him to hang it out. But AIBU to wish that he'd engage his brain a little??

Annoying, you have my sympathy! My DH never does the washing, he says it is because he never does it how I like it! I have thought about going on strike but thought it was a bit childish!

It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow. Good luck. X

You're expecting too much unfortunately, my dh would struggle to identify a washing machine.

I have lived this exact scenario. Fucking infuriating.

If he's anything like mine he needs clear and highly detailed instructions. If these aren't given then it's my fault. Therefore YABU. Grin

So you didn't turn the washer on? Why did you ask him to put the washing out, rather than turn the washer on?

'You're expecting too much'. What?????
A man is as capable as a woman of operating a washing machine.

You're all right. There's no hope cries
I'm cross because I've missed a day in the never ending parade of laundry to be done and now I'll never catch up.
I never used to spend so much time thinking about laundry...

Yanbu

Against all my principles after one too many incidents like this I've banned DH from the washing. It's just un fucking bearable isn't it?

Wombattoo because I thought it had run. I made a mistake. But I think spending 20 minutes hanging out a load of dirty laundry is a less comprehensible mistake.

So he took dry clothes out of the machine? Unless its a washer drier he is an idiot.

I only do my own laundry, DP does his and the DCs, so I am not qualified to answer on this thread!

I wish people wouldn't imply men aren't capable of basic understanding. Unless you have married someone with cognitive difficulties, there is NO reason they wouldn't be able to use a washing machine. Don't enable them.

OP You have my sympathy. I would expect me DH to text me something along the lines of "you didn't turn machine on, you Wally. Have done so now." I have forgotten to press start multiple times, but I am pretty sure clothes have never, ever, ever come out the machine dry.

Ha. Yes you're right Dead. I don't know why it didn't occur to me that he was hanging out dry washing. I'm worse than your dh. Sorry. Blush

Dp once put dirty clothes in the machine, put powder and fabric softener in and forgot to press start. He unloaded the DRY still dirty clothes into the dryer for 80 minutes. There was a pair of the babies trousers absolutely caked in food and he hadn't noticed. I noticed straight away when I took the clothes out of the dryer.

Yanbu. He unloaded a load of unwashed clothes out of the washing machine, hung them up, and then put them away?

Yanbu, he is a prize bellend. Don't even pretend to find this amusing, it is utter utter twattery.

You wash a dog towel with your clothes?

Report
DeadGood · 29/04/2016 22:19

napqueen I think the damp dog towel introduced an element of uncertainty to proceedings. Vom. I don't even know where that towel is now. It wasn't on the clothes horse. I might have to burn it when I find it.
captaincrunch this has happened to me once before... When I lived with my nan, who was pushing 90 and in the early stages of dementia.
My OH is in his 30s

What are soap nuts?

Sympathies OP.

I've banned my DH from the washing machine too. Last time he tried he used a 90 degree wash and pre wash. Almost 3 hours. His thinking was that a high temperature would get everything super clean. Hmm

Sadly he put something in that should have never been washed in a machine. It shed its fibres into the drum which then blocked the pump and filter.

He's not stupid and works in a senior professional role. The washing machine and the Sky remote leave him flummoxed.

wombattoo can I trade your partner for mine?
Sigh. He's a good'un really. He made an amazing dinner. And is very good at hanging out laundry (provided I am in hand to confirm it is, indeed, clean)

Soap nuts... I have just thrown my stash on my garden borders. I have had them for about 10 years, did about 3 or 4 washes with them and was never totally convinced by the end result. I should have kept them and sent them to DeadGood.
