To wish I could shop at Sainsburys

I know this is ridiculous but I bloody love Sainsbos. I do most of my shopping at Lidl/local market because it's cheap and convenient but every now and then I go to the big Sainsburys for 'a few bits' and spend a bloody fortune marvel at the choice and variety and lovely things they have. I know I'm a sad act and that I'm lucky I can afford food, but it pisses me off that I'm always having to watch the pennies when other people can go there and pile their trollies high without thinking about it.

Sainsburys isn't expensive is it?! I shop either there or Waitrose and spend around £85 -£100 a week for a family of 4 and one cat. We don't buy alcohol but we eat well and have treats etc. I don't think that's an excessive amount either ..

I do love wondering around Sainsburys. We've got a fairly new one with a lovely big clothing and home section. I also can't afford to shop their but will pick up bits occasionally.

I get almost double in Aldi to what I get in Sainsburys.

I know the envy op. Even the 'little' shops during the week add up. One day...one day...

I love waitrose for doing this. I love wondering up and down their aisles considering honey for £19 a small pot

You could do an online shop. It wouldn't be that much more and you could get lots of lovely foody things and make sure you get good offers. Going into store always costs a fortune!

Sainsburys is no better at all, in fact I always find their fruit and veg goes off really quickly. I wouldn't pick it over Aldis for quality. There are some grocery bits that Aldis et al don't have of course. I tend to do farm shops weekly for meat and dairy and another for fruit and veg, then a supermarket every few weeks or so for tins etc.

I love sainsburys too. We have three superstores I can get to and I take it in turns . We also have three Waitroses I go to as well. No tescos, no Asda. two lidls but I'm not keen.

Actually OP - it drives me mad when I have to go to Sainsburys for something now. I usually go to Aldi and I now get the rage at the amount of time it takes at the tills in Sainsburys, even before I start thinking 'HOW MUCH'?? at some of the same things that I get in Aldi.

I agree with MrsH, try doing an online shop. It is easier to work out the best deals, have a good browse without getting to the till and panicking about the cost.
I am envious of people who buy the pre packed chopped fruit. Imagine just ripping the seal off and tucking into your juicy bite sized pineapple chunks

We have Aldi and Sainsburys across the road from each other, I do my shopping in Aldi and just pop across to Sainsburys for the bits I can't get in Aldi (and clothes, when the sale is on!) I know exactly what you mean, and I have to stick exactly to my list to make sure I don't just pick up lots of lovely but unnecessary stuff.

I know how you feel OP. I do a sainsburys shop once a month which is my big shop where I get everything I need and stock up which is around 60 pounds. Then my weekly shop I can't afford more than 30 pound so I shop at lidl and can get quite a lot for that. I do love sainsburys though.

I'm a lidl shopper but get the bits I can't in sainsburys.
I love their ethics, their produce and their shops.
Just wish I could afford to do my entire shop.

Well I'm jealous of people who have a really good local Lidl or Aldi. We have a Lidl near by and it's crap! Very limited range of everything and all the food I've tried has been just nasty.
My usual shop is Sainsbury's - it's that or Waitrose or M&S here and I can't afford either of the last two. I do pretty well at Sainsbury's as long as you pay attention to the special offers.
What's putting me off at the moment though are the automated announcements they've started doing with the chap who says "Welcome to your local Sains-BURR-eeee's!"

See, i shop in Sains and have envy about Waitrose and M&S.

I buy very boring and basic stuff for my weekly shop in Sains and manage to keep the cost pretty low, but i love the browse around the clothes and home stuff first and mentally spend a fortune. If i've got any spare cash it usually goes on DD4 (2). I love their kids clothes.

I know the feeling, although I prefer Waitrose lol. I actually priced up our shopping on sainsburys and waitrose and sainsburys was £7 more expensive this week!

IMO the veg selection and quality, and quality and availability of free range meat is better in Lidl than Sainsbos. Plus the deli selection is easily as good. For 2/3rds of the cost.

We have a smallish Sainsbury nearby and it's rubbish! Barely any selection at all. I used to live near a big sainsburys with clothes toys etc and it was definitely fab! So expensive though.

I don't feel right in sainsburys even if I can afford it now, I've been poor for too long to spend lots of money when I know I can get it cheaper.

And I've never been in a waitrose, mainly because I don't know where there is one near me, I do occasionally go to booth's for a nosy though, judging by the clientelle I see in there I assume it's my nearest waitress equivalent.

I read so much on here about Aldi but I've never even seen one. We had a Lidl but it was not great and has closed for refurb. Is Aldi better than Lidl?

I have used Aldi a couple of times, but their fruit and veg seems to die within a day. It's not a bargain if you have to replace the salad two days after buying it. And the chicken was absolutely tasteless. And the queue to pay is always ridiculous. I find it really depressing as well. We are lucky enough that we can afford to shop in Waitrose or M and S now, but this hasn't always been the case, and I remember when Tesco was almost a discount shop with things piled up like a warehouse. Jujuheyhey, you will get to the stage in life when you can do your shop in Sainsburys, but I suspect that like me you will always be looking for the bargains!
