AIBU to be freaked out that my baby sleeps through

This is not a stealth post I'm a first time mum to a wonderful 7 week old baby boy. He's just so good. Last night he slept from 11-6am I've not done anything in terms of routine sleep training bla bla ive just been very responsive to him. Holding him and boobing to sleep etc. He's ebf. Is this ok?hes gaining weight as far as I can see since last weight check and is very happy and content. He never really crys much and is smiling now too. I'm just worried that maybe he is going too long without a feed. For the first time yesterday he puked up milk. I kept a close eye on him though and no temp and was in a good mood.went to bed at 11pm At 6am I took him into bed for a feed and he didn't have much at all. Went back to his cot until 7.30 and then had a bigger feed and cuddles and chats with dad. He's then had another sleep and I've just given him a short feed and he's sleepy again. I'm just concerned his sleeps are more frequent and longer and feeds shorter. Is this ok? Normal? I'm worried that he is perhaps missing feeds? Also I had a bit of spotting yesterday, could it be my period returning? Thanks for reading

DD2 slept from midnight to 7am at 9 weeks. It was bliss. I won't tell you what her sleep ended up like between 4 months old and 2 years old

If he's gaining weight, feeding well before he goes to sleep and again when he wakes up, and seems well in himself, then I wouldn't think there was any difficulty with that. Enjoy it!

just don't frame it as a problem to any poor sleep deprived parents you might know Wink

It's normal. The older he gets, the quicker he will be getting his milk. My DD was eating for 10 mins at 3 months and by 6 months it took her 5 minutes.
Sleeping through is good. DD was like that. Now she is 15 months old and I'm lucky if she falls asleep within 2 hours of me trying to get her to sleep. Confused

Hi OP. DD was exactly the same. She slept from about 2130 through to 0700, then went down for a nap between 9 and 12 then one again in the afternoon. Then she turned 16 weeks old....

Sounds remarkably similar to DS who slept through from 10 weeks and was only on about 5 (long) feeds a day from shortly after that.

Count your blessings. But at the same time take nothing for granted.

4 month sleep regression hit us like a brick shithouse. Blush

And don't google four month sleep regression.

Actually, mine did a bit of puking milk at that age too. Turned out it was wind issues. He was absolutely fine apart from that. My sofa took the biggest beating.

Ha ha OP, the one thing about having kids is that just when you think you've got it cracked, the applecart overturns.

Come back in a couple of months and let us know how your perfect baby is doing.

That's a bit harsh pearlylum I never said my baby was perfect and I have plenty of other issues to contend with I was just asking for some genuine insight.

I don't think that's fair Pearly. The OP is clearly looking for reassurance.

My son slept through from six weeks and never had four month regression. He only ever woke if he was poorly. My daughter on the other hand didn't sleep through properly for probably 8-12 months. I parented them exactly the same, it's just down to the individual child. He still loves his sleep at 8!

I agree it's clearly his temperament. I'm
Sure the next one will be a nightmare Shock

Do you have oversupply ammature? I think most mums whose EBF babies sleep through early make a lot of milk.

"He's just so good. "
Not a stealth boast?

Are babies who don't sleep through bad?

My DD was just like this and I worried she was lethargic etc. She was mostly just a good eater so could go for longer between feeds than most babies. My DS needed more smaller feeds so didn't sleep through until after he was on solids. Both normal and nothing to worry about as long as have wet and dirty nappies.

Get over yourself Perly, the OP is just commenting on his temperament. You're the only person drawing conclusions about babies who don't sleep through.

Wouldn't fret about it ammature. Both my girls slept through from around 6 weeks and I never followed any sleeping or feeding guides. I fully appreciate how lucky I was. You're not bragging, you're seeking reassurance and it's what I wanted to do in your position too. Of course some people are going to be envious and that's totally understandable but parenting is swings and roundabouts from day 1. Carry on as you are - your instincts will tell you if anything needs to change.

As long as he's gaining weight and seems healthy I think he's fine. Ask your HV if you're really worried but otherwise just be grateful. My DS is four months old and has never slept through. His record is four hours, his usual is around two hours. The four month sleep regression is just business as usual.

All mine slept through before 12 weeks, all EBF so it might continue. Make the most of it. Smile

Some babies do it, DD did too from a very young age. Never had any regression either and at 4 is still an excellent sleeper and loves her bed. Day time naps, on the other hand, were for wimps Grin It's not as common as waking quite a lot but it does happen - enjoy it!
