AIBU?

Tesco need to sort their priorities!

Had abandoned Tesco due to poor customer service (staff on mobiles at checkouts, throwing stock over my head in vegetable aisle, loud swearing in the bakery). However today I thought I'd chance it as I'm having a party tonight. I was filling my trolley to brim with crisps, sausages, chicken and beer, etc, when there was a tannoy announcement for three car owners to go to front entrance immediately. I was very worried; last time I heard an announcement like that at Tesco, a car was on fire.I raced to the door with my trolley. The man said 'Please can you move your car immediately as it has been reserved for BMW show vehicles."
Calmly I said no, pointing out I had a large trolley of goods and had not finished shopping. The man offered to look after my trolley while I moved my car. Again I replied no.The car park was almost full and I had arrived just after the shop opened, paid for my space when there was no signage or parking cones in place and did not relish the thought of pushing trolley miles across the huge car park. He then offered to start putting items through the till while I moved my car. I again replied no and flounced off.
I really wanted to abandon the trolley, but the thought of driving to another supermarket and starting again was too much. I took my time and slowly returned to my car. The staff member was waiting. I noticed neither of the other cars had been moved. Hee hee. Was I BU?

BMW show vehicles?

YANBU. If there were no signs up when you parked, I wouldn't have moved either.

I wasn't rude to the staff member. I feel he was just following orders. But why should I be made to move as Tesco are making more money out of an international company willing to pay a premium to increase their profits? That's really the end for me with Tesco. I'll stick to Waitrose and Lidle-they seem to value customers more.

WTF? BMW show vehicles, in a Tesco car park, on a bank holiday, without any signs etc ahead of opening? Weird. Sounds like a half-baked marketing campaign if there ever was one.

YANBU.

If they want to reserve spaces for show vehicles, they need to put some sort of cones or barriers in place.

Especially if you have to pay for the space. Do you get a refund on the parking at the till?

Well done! I definitely wouldn't move, it may be very unreasonable of me but I hate these car show things where they take over a public car park for hours just swanning about. Hire out a field or something!

I would also email hq.
They should of cloned off the spaces before opening or hovered around the car par and cloned them once each of the three had left

Ameliablue · 28/03/2016 12:15

Yabu. Yes they should have been coned off but he was offering to help you and you just flounced off.

I agree Toomuch, but this was a spur of the moment "oh blimey, everyone's accepted" on Friday!! You have to book slots 2 weeks in advance round here.

You don't have to pay for parking at our Tesco store, but when they have vehicles on display they use the parking spaces nearest the store entrance which are parent and child Hmm

Local to me they are pulling out all stops to out do Ocado for customer service when it comes to delivery. The drivers are awesome, the lovely person who is the dedicated customer service for that depot is lovely - can't recommend them enough.

Tesco stores - not so keen.

I wonder if they would have coned off parent and child/disabled places?

They use the M&C spaces here too. That seems logical to me as they aren't compulsory, they are a courtesy extended by the shop.

The guy might have offered to help but the OP states there were very few spaces left in the car park so she would have to drive around, park, walk all the way back, finish shopping, pack and then walk all the way to the car again.

I don't think so!! YANBU Op. Not at all.

Agree with Ameliablu, they offered to help , you could have asked them to find you a space and hold it for you.
Love to know what store it is because i have never seen behaviour like that in any supermarket, not even morrisons where there was fisticuffs by the customers everytime i went in there

Who did the cars belong to
. The Royal Family.
Good for for you for not moving your car.
With the risk of sounding like a 3 year old. Your car was there first.
I bet you did get a terrifying shock. When the read out your car reg. You probably imagined all sorts.

It will be a local car dealership. The one i work for does a similar advertising campaign at Sainsburys on a bank holiday. I think we pay for it.
