AIBU?

AIBU to think that Tesco should still stock Easter eggs on Easter Saturday.....

......rather than clear it all for Passover stuff which isn't for another 3 weeks?

It seems to be getting worse each year. Middle of January was when they first started stocking Easter stuff. I'd only just got the house clear after the mess of Christmas, why would I want to buy Easter stuff then and have to find somewhere to store it all for 2 months.

It boils my piss. There are not even any mini eggs or Lindt bunnies left. All cleared for Passover stuff which is still a few weeks off.

Tesco do know that people want to shop for Easter during Easter bank holiday weekend because they've got the usual traditional food in like lamb and hot cross buns. but their Easter display which they've had for weeks and weeks has been switched to Passover.

Aldi seem to get it right- stock the seasonal stuff a few weeks before and there are usually a few bits left a day or two before the seasonal event. Dunno about the others cos I haven't been anywhere else today.

But tesco......grrrrrr......

They don't want to be left with unsold stock. Our Sainsburys was piled high with Easter stuff yesterday morning but I have made the Easter Saturday mistake before and found it had all gone.

This morning our Tesco had not a bad selection of eggs left. No Passover stuff though. They don't loads left though so don't leave it until day before Easter!

It was heavily reduced yesterday in all the supermarkets around here - they want to get rid of it all before Easter. As soon as it's gone, they move onto the next seasonal display.

Lamb will sell after easter, as will hot cross buns, but easter eggs plummet in value as soon as easter Sunday has gone.

YANBU!!! I hated this when I lived in the UK. I remember trying to buy wrapping paper on Christmas eve! Nightmare!

Here in Australia it's a bit different. This Christmas just gone, I was in a big old panic a week before CHristmas and shot off to get stuffing mix etc and the shops were EMPTY on a Friday evening. Empty! The biggest supermarket...like a desert but absolutely stuffed with stock!

On Christmas Eve Coles ran out of a few things and there was OUTRAGE! Grin

Did you manage to get anything at all OP?

I'd already got our kids stuff a couple of weeks ago but had forgotten to buy a little something for 2 kids at a gathering tomorrow. There was nothing. Lots of people shuffling and muttering in the confectionary aisle and picking up and putting down various items of normal chocolate. And I really would have been happy with some mini eggs, didn't even have to be an actual Easter egg! But not even mini eggs there!!

I disagree that any leftover stock wouldn't sell after Easter Saturday. I'd be the first to buy some at just a smal discount- for myself!

Nah, Father's Day throughout April and May and then back to school in June and July. Christmas is August onwards.

I'm not sure what the Passover display consisted of. Was too busy tutting at the absence of Easter eggs which were in that exact spot a couple of days ago!

Any Jewish people about who could tell us what might be in that Passover aisle?

slebmum kosher-for-Passover Coke! Not such a big deal here but in the U.S, it's very exciting because it contains REAL sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup

Huh, I had no idea that Passover wasn't always a few days before Easter. I assumed Easter was the Sunday following Passover, hence why it changed date because it was according to the Jewish calendar. I might take to celebrating Easter twice - we can do the commercial bunny & chocolate stuff with everyone else & focus more on the Jesus aspect the Sunday after Passover.

We bought eggs in Tesco yesterday. They often have a small shelf of reduced eggs after Easter. I once bought an enormous egg that would've cost £20 before Easter but only cost me £5. I was a very happy bunny that year! Grin

Just been in my local Tesco, it was piled high with eggs on Thursday evening but there were hardly any today. Couldn't tell you if they had Passover stuff though because I wouldn't know WTF it looked like.

No eggs at all in my local asda today. No passover aisle either but then there is only a tiny Jewish population here so it wouldn't make sense to have one here. They d9 however ramp it up around Ramadan/eid time and have whole aisles dedicated to it.

ILove, we are in a big city and have a fairly large Jewish community locally so there is a permanent Jewish food and drink section. I think they do a small Hannukah display but I think this is only the second year that there has been such a large Passover one (which was where the Easter stuff had been). All the crappy Easter non-food tat had also gone.
