AIBU?

To not ever drink again? Semi serious?!

I have a hangover, I drank half a bottle of wine with food (and water!) so hardly excessive. I just don't think my body can take it.

I know everyone says that when they have a hangover, but at some point last night when I was willing myself not to be sick as the world was spinning I thought this is so not worth two large glasses of wine!

Argh I feel lame

YANBU
I'm the same. It doesn't take very much for me to get drunk and then to have a hangover the next day. I've noticed as well that just before my period it's worse.

I hardly drink now. It's just not worth it.

hope you feel better soon Flowers

Hope you feel better very soon, Why - have some Brew

I've pretty much given up drinking alcohol - just a couple of glasses of wine seems to be all I can cope with these days. I put it down to my advanced years Grin

Me too. Used to be able to drink copious amounts of gin. Now wake up with a really bad headache after just two pint of beer or two huge glasses of wine. Ruins the drink as I know I'm going to suffer the next day. It's just not fair. I don't drink often any more. I'm wondering if I just need more practice? Wink

Are you quite small? Being small, or having Japanese or Chinese heritage makes it less likely that you can handle the drink. It's metabolism.

Give it up if u want.

I'm small but fat that explains it.

Another one who doesn;t drink anymore due to being completly unable to take it, I probably drink twice a year and remember why I don;t drink each time. II replaced my relax time drink with camomile tea, much nicer.

You're getting old. Happens to the best of us. I gave up for the same reason.

I've developed a low tolerance to alcohol and I look better when I drink less.

I can drink more Southern Comfort, than wine.

I see it as a bonus, though, it saves me a fortune.

Flowers for your head.

Wine can get me tipsy after one glass.

Vodka on the other hand I need more then one or two to get tipsy.

Red wine is espp bad for bad heads the next morning.

Why semi serious?

I mean honestly, why would it matter if you never drank again?

It would be nothing to be ashamed of!

You can't drink much without feeling ill at the time & bad the next day?

So why bother?

I know you are not supposed to admit this but the only reason I drink is social pressure really

My friends and family are mostly drinkers (and seem to tolerate it) so would make me stand out in an annoying way, and people would definitely make comments and I just don't have the energy to constantly justify it

My mum is the same with wine. Gets really pissed on very little and has horrendous hangovers.

If she sticks to gin and tonic, she gets happily tipsy and has no hangover.

I've got quite a high tolerance and don't think that to be normal or healthy. When out with friends that get tipsy after one or two glasses of wine it always reminds me that that is normal, not the ability to drink a whole bottle and feel fine.

As I have got older my tolerance to alcohol has reduced drastically.

It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever what I drink, the result is the same.

Two glasses of wine or equivalent gin/vodka/beer will give me a 4am wake up, sweats, thumping head and nausea.

More than that and I am out of action for at least two days - barely able to get out of bed.

I totally understand what you are saying about social pressure, but there are ways around it. Just tell people you are on a medication that means you cannot drink alcohol. There are plenty of them about - just have a google and find something that fits whatever ailment sounds most credible for you. Or say you are on a health kick. Or just tell them the truth - your body cannot tolerate alcohol any more. They will stop going on about it eventually.

I'm 34 and can't drink any more. I have a glass of wine or champagne every so often but can't drink like I did at Uni; DH and I went for dinner in Feb and shared two bottles of wine (over a 4 course meal) and it took 3 days to recover. The children thought it was hilarious that I had to lie down every time I tried to make them a cup of juice. Fools.

I don't drink. Give it a try. What's the worst that could happen?

I stopped drinking just over a year ago. Dont miss it at all.

It annoys me when people make comments. I usually just say "oh i'm on a health kick.."

Not advocating drinking obviously, but have you tried organic wine? It's so much 'cleaner' and based on a survey of 3 people I know doesn't cause a bad head the next morning.

OP "I know you are not supposed to admit this but the only reason I drink is social pressure really"

oh that's awful. Just tell them to fuck off. Doesn't suit me either. I have had really bad reactions to one glass of wine - I actually came out in a rash?! - so I have ditched wine altogether and now on the rare occasion I want a drink, I have one, so i'm not teetotal but if I wanted to be, I would be.

My best mate is possibly a functioning alcholic and all my other friends drink loads but they don't say anything about me not drinking, I went on holiday with them as well.

it's really not worth feeling like shit just because some people have a fit about you not drinking. They need to get lives.

You're not alone! I'm the same. Almost never drink at home as it just doesn't appeal but now and then (2/3 times a year?) I quite enjoy getting fairly merry - wedding, work Christmas do, etc. but really regret it the next day - that has to be written off basically (I'm 39).

I'm pretty small and slight too. I just enjoy a mini binge now and then! Today however I'll be offered wine at lunch and dinner at PIL house and will decline - makes me sleepy and with two lively kids and bedtime routine to do, who can be bothered?

Roll with it if you feel it's not worth it. I had a sober Xmas do this year due to antibiotics. Enjoyed it to almost the same level as with a few drinks and no hangover- felt really happy the next day!

OP "I just don't have the energy to constantly justify it"

don't. If they ask why you're not having a drink, say "I don't feel like it". I always think the only sort of person who bothers you about not drinking is worried about their own drinking, so you could even ask "why does it worry you so much?" with a concerned look. I bet they'll shut up then.

Last weekend I felt the same, but had drank too much too quickly and could not even stand. Worst of it was that we were with friends in a pub!

Dp had to rescue me from the toilets, where I had been sick - although oddly enough I did manage to clean up my mess!

I was so embarrassed and all friends were shocked, not like me at all.

Stupidly I hadn't eaten much so all my stupid fault.

Get ye into the shower, blast yourself into today and keep sipping water
