www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/mar/25/i-paid-to-have-my-daughter-kidnapped-experience

Article from the Guardian. Rather an extreme reaction to your DD wanting to be a hairdresser! Wonder how the daughter would tell the story?

Her daughter needs to access the Stately homes thread here!

BTW it would be illegal in the UK - young people have far more rights than that.

No problem with the principle of the place she went to. Kids who have gone off the rails (and it sounds like this was about more than her wanting to be a hairstylist) can respond really well to those kinds of things and I personally think they can be character building and beneficial.

Having her kidnapped however? What in jesus fuck is that about? And DRUGGING her? I have no words. Surely it's illegal to drug your child? And to send them off with strangers when they're drugged too Confused

I'm glad it worked out but can you imagine how that could have backfired? Talk about risking your child never trusting you again.

The guardian are specialists at finding awful parents. Does anyone remember that tattoo mother?

I watched "brat camp " some years ago, child abuse in my opinion.

It was hard for her?! Her poor daughter.

My daughter is 26 now and I think she'd still be having psychiatric treatment if she was kidnapped at 17 - more so when she realised it was her own mother who organised it.

I'm surprised drugging your child would be legal! Maybe not but who would you complain to? I can't help but think however successful the daughters life is on the surface this has to be a very painful and damaging experience.

Children die at those camps. Sending your child there is despicable.

read first paragraph and couldn't do anymore, stupid bitch, I would have my mother prosecuted for that.

So the kids go through divorce and the effects that can have then she moves away from their home with them so somewhere new and when they do a bit of teen rebellion she sends one away and has one kidnapped.

Interesting.

Tattoo mum is ridiculous! Though scarily liked dad. He refused to even look at my sister when she had her nose pierced. She's planning a tattoo, could be interesting! Of course she is in her 30s but I suspect he will still sulk.

Omfg! just read the tattoo mother piece. Am a bit speechless! Do you really think that is a straight piece and not some sort of very clever parody?

Report
RhombusRiley · 25/03/2016 16:38

Wow, she went through all that for... wanting to leave school and be a hairdresser? What a delinquent! Hmm

She could have just let her go through her not very rebellious phase, try hairdressing, and go back to college later if she wanted to. Or even be a successful high-end hairdresser

Her DD probably will have problems at some stage, it can take a while to really understand how much your parents hurt you (speaking from experience).

What I can't get over is that she sent her drugged, defenceless daughter on a long journey with two men she didn't know.wtaf?

I can't get over is that she sent her drugged, defenceless daughter on a long journey with two men she didn't know.wtaf?

because the default is to assume all men are rapists?presumably they are employed by the 'brat camp' , not just randomers

But that aside, it is an unspeakable thing to do to a young person, I cannot imagine how it would not scar you for life

Shock at Tattoo mother .

It would be interesting to read that woman's reaction if her DS did something that was actually dreadful like committ a crime or become a Tory Minister. I bet she is a mumsnetter.

Tattoo Mum is completely nuts, woah! Her poor DC

And for this Mum, I understand the boot camp but the drugs and the lies, she could have easily said if you want me to fund beauty school then go to this camp, kid wouldn't have had much of a choice, and honestly high end hairdresser's are paid extremely well.

There is so much wrong there that I don't even know where to start.

She poisoned and assaulted her daughter - and the daughter is the one who needed "sorting out"?
