My 9 mo is too busy watching the geezer at the front with the guitar to really care whether I sing along or not.

Infact when I do occasionally get a bit jazz hands, he turns around and looks at me as if to say, "WTF are you doing?", and then carries on looking at the guitar man.

The singing and hand signals are often REALLY LOUD and REALLY EXPRESSIVE from the parents though, aren't they?

AIBU for thinking they don't really get anything from their parents booming along and clapping manically to if you're happy and you know it?

SAHD here and getting a bit wearisome about play groups, think i need to cut down from 3 a week to 1 and the rest explore the parks a bit.

Some people just do everything that bit more loudly than others.

Clearly you don't have teenagers then.

What they get is to take the piss out of you, every time they remember your manic clapping and booming, and to dine out on that memory for evermore.

No you don't have to join in really loudly - I think embarrassed muttery singing and very inhibited hand movement is expected. I was an over enthusiastic singer and arm waver - I soon learned to tone it down after some disapproving looks.
I saved the manic hokey cokeying for the privacy of my own home and weddings.

My dd was always engrossed in the lady running it but a fellow attendees child was fascinated by me so I sang for her

Well I always felt that if I was obliged to sing fucking wind the bobbin up again at least I should be allowed to put my whole self into it.

But then I promised myself when I turned 30 I didn't have to pretend to be less Mary Poppins With Jazz Handsy than I really am ANY MORE.

But if I were you I'd cut down my playgroup habit for mental health purposes.

Haha we went to a baby group that did singing in a circle at the end, DS every time, without fail, would gaze lovingly at whichever other mum was sitting next to me
Felt a right twat singing along seemingly only for my own benefit!
