AIBU?

to have a bikini wax while on my period?

holiday on Sunday - need bikini wax.

Unexpectedly have period. My cycle changes if stressed / ill. I'm blaming this on stress of exchanging / completing and moving house all in one week.

What is the done thing here - would it be ok to freshen up before wax, explain to beautician, and keep pants on for wax (so more of a bikini tidy round the edges than the full Brazilian I would normally have)?

Or is this a complete no-go, and I should just get my legs done (too late to cancel appt. now - will need to pay so might as well get something done).

p.s. I use tampons (if this makes any difference)

I still would but explain. I'm sure they come across this lots. Or you could wax yourself!

I'd turn up and ask her how she feels about it.

Doesn't your pain threasehold drop when you're having a period?

She won't be bothered if you keep pants on and have a tidy up instead.

Apparently it hurts more/is more sensitive when you're on your period. Not a theory I've tested though as I don't fancy it while I'm on.

Go for it Grin

If you're wearing a fresh tampon I can't see it should make a difference to the beautician. I have from home waxing experience that it was massively more painful when waxing on my period though. So wouldn't recommend it from a pain point of view!

Take couple of paracetamol before, fresh tampax and have full shebang
Not sure why anything else would be a problem
Have a lovely holiday

My local place will wax you when on your period but they insist on a freshen up and fresh tampon just before hand which seems fair. I would just call up and ask.

It hurts more, so take a strong painkiller, but other than that I don't think it matters if it's just a normal bikini line. If it's a hollywood, or brazillian then the string would get in the way. But i've often had a standard bikini wax with a tampon in. They wouldn't know as you don't take your pants off. I would mention it tho just to explain why you are more sensitive and screaming in pain

The lady I go to is fine about being on your period as long as you wear a tampona and are clean. Fresh tarpon just before and a good wash or baby wipe.

Oh I make sure the string is sort of 'inside' a flap rather than hanging out so as to not get accidentally caught! But TMI.

I had a bikini wax a couple of weeks ago while on my period, but I was using a mooncup. It was fine, I doubt she would have noticed it but I did mention any way.

I'm in the minority here because it's a Hell No from me...

Mind I don't have periods any more (TF) but when I did I suspect it would have ended up like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre so that's probably influencing my opinion.

I'll be coming straight from gym (shower) so as clean as clean can be!

God I wouldn't do it, but I'm too shy to go for a wax anyway, as much I would like to.
What if the tampon string gets caught in the wax?? Argh!

I always thought that when I have seen info leaflets about waxing in salons it says don't go in if you are on your period. I personally wouldn't.

I wouldn't either. Just would never feel fresh enough even after a shower. Each to their own though. I can't imagine she will have an issue with this if you don't.

On period, had wax yesterday. I am very good friends with my waxing lady though, she's fine with it use tampons, tuck everything in

Also, hyper sensitivity with waxing tends to be worse in the week before. Two paracetamol an hour before appointment generally sorts that out Smile

I just think that is minging to be honest.

I often wondered if that would happen.....tampon string gets caught in the wax and flies out with the strip.

A tidying up on the sides wax where you keep the pants on (and everything tampon related within the pants) is ok - why would the waxer even need to know? As you say, you couldnt do a full Brazilian when you are on, obviously

I had a wax 10 hours before going into full labour once (not intentionally) and it was the most horrific experience. I think it would definitely be more painful during a period, so yy to pre-wax painkillers

But surely you don't take your knickers off for a bikini wax?
I don't understand how a tampon string could get stuck in the wax Confused

I have never taken my knickers off for a wax...I have a very neat thin middle strip...no therapist would let a tampon string get caught in the wax...
