To ask what your period feels like?

I've been in the pill since I was 18. Stopped taking it to TTC DS and got pregnant before I'd even had a period, so I haven't had a 'proper' period for over 15 years.

Have stopped the pill again to TTC and am awaiting first period. I have been feeling like it's coming for almost a week but I can't actually remember what it feels like.

My uterus feels swollen and hard, my lower back is sore, my hips are sore. I had sex yesterday and I felt a bit sore inside (as in when DH's penis was poking my cervix) That means my period is coming right?

Sorry if the 'poking' bit is TMI!!

Like a rotavator churning up my insides. Just for added joy, everything smells extra strong, I feel weak and light and extremely clumsy (I often burn myself cooking) and I often get the squits.

I (wierdly) get achy knees the day before it starts.

that's light headed. I actually feel like my limbs are extremely heavy.

Oysterbabe · 14/03/2016 21:39

Just a bit of mild cramping here.

akire I remember that I really used to suffer, but it's been so long the specifics are hazy!

I don't know if these are just pill withdrawal symptoms or period symptoms?

I get the squits along with all the above. It's a delight.

Ohh I've had the light headedness too.

I thought the squits was just me! Feel normal now Grin.
The day before the period comes is the worst for me. I get the squits, aching hips and lower back, bloated, nausea, feel completely and utterly worthless and depressed, crave all sorts of shit food. Then when it arrives I feel relieved because the bad mood lifts but I feel gross and heavy for the first two days when it's heavy.

Ohh I'm really looking forward to having periods again! Grin

I've never been shot but I can't imagine the pain of that being any worse than the pain of my period.

I have endo, though.

I've just had my first period in nearly 3 years (pregnancy and breastfeeding) it was weird but I soon got the hang of it Grin DH was scared I was going to turn into a hormonal mess so was on tap with a never ending chocolate and hug supply Smile

I currently feel as if I might be dying.
Extreme cramps, nausea and a headache and I'd happily throttle any human who looks at me funny.

I really need to go back on the pill because my real periods are often so painful I pass out. Sigh.

Beforehand :

Always, always a massive poo.

Sometimes tenderness in boob.

Sensitivity at the sides of my vajayjay.

If I go in a shop find myself filling trolley with all sorts of crap I wouldn't normally buy.

And lastly, finding yourself crying like a weirdo over a home improvement TV show or something equally odd.

During :

Like I'm sitting in a puddle usually, smelly, let death come and welcome etc

Oh yes, I forgot how it makes my IBS flare up! Buscopan and codeine do help though

Just a foul mood and feeling that things like clingfilm and tin openers are conspiring against me about a week before, then a mild sensitivity in the bowel region, but no actual cramps, once the blasted thing has arrived.

How are you still awaiting your period? You are not pregnant are you? Did you have a withdrawl bleed from coming off the pill? Sorry might be being thick

Absolutely bloody awful, though I'm waiting on my first non 'artifical' one for 2 years just now. Last real one I was taken to ruddy hospital as couldn't stop spewing and doctor couldn't get pain under control .. I have suspected endo.

I get constipated the day before (sorry tmi). Then agonising cramps, doubled over, barely walk sometimes, three or four days heavy bleeding. It feels like my insides are bing torn apart.

Cramps, aching legs, sore breasts and it feels like the world is being pulled out of my arse.

Ah, wait till you're menopausal, and they either don't appear leaving you wondering if this is really The End or whether you're about to become Dinosaur Mother, or they do appear with such rage that you can feel each individual clot passing through your cervix and let me tell you it's effing painful!
Hormonal, me?!?

Report
scarednoob · 14/03/2016 22:22

Apparently the whirlysplats and the cramps are connected - the same hormones make your bowels open!

I never used to notice mine. Then I got to be about 35 and suddenly started getting grim cramps some months (but not others, I read this was due to ovulating on different sides but no idea if that is true).

Your description of PMT sounds bang on - sore boobs, dragging heavy uterus with cramps, wanting to eat the world.

Cramps, sore boobs, mood swings... Isn't it bonkers how the symptoms for periods, v early pregnancy and menopause are all so similar? You'd think we'd have evolved to feel them all differently!

Report
KatsutheClockworkOctopus · 14/03/2016 22:28

I have a lot of the symptoms above. Have recently added shakiness to the list-horrible weird shivering when the flow is heaviest .
I also develop a cold rage at the world a week or so before. This is quite good actually as it means I get a lot done at work - fury can be quite a powerful motivator!

Cramps (not dissimilar to when you have an upset stomach)-I usually cry a few days before for no good reason. This is from memory though as I'm 36 weeks pregnant Grin

Recently I've had Brixton hicks that have been like very intense period pains.
