Top Gear Filming near Cenotaph?

Any one else a bit Confused?

Disrespecting the Cenotaph bad obviously but I can't see how they were?

They were granted the filming and road closures, they must have had to explain what they were intending to do for it to be filmed.

Also (and I'm not not sure if it is true as I'm not from the capital) I was informed once by a chap that it's a popular area for filming as its recognisable, and users of the route are used to closures?

Is it just the papers looking for fodder/ a Top Gear publicity stunt or do I need a slap on the wrist too?

I don't really get it either.

I've done my Mnet best to try and see it as an offence and based on the pictures I'm struggling.

It's a lot of hype about nothing really. I respect those that died in the war. I don't want the cenotaph to be damaged. That's as far as my sentiments go. We're not Americans, we don't get hett up about flags and suchlike. I seriously doubt any soldiers will be turning in their grave over a fast car which drove fast round it. Media hype.

I was thinking the same thing. I can't see the issue.

I would like to see the actual footage of it, I've only seen the still photos, were they doing a stunt which made the Cenotaph covered in smoke.

No, I was wondering about this. Is "driving near the cenotaph" considered "disrespecting the cenotaph" now? If so, Whitehall is going to be quiet from now on.

Did anybody see the major talking on the news.
He said they apologised pretty quickly and as far as he was concerned that was the end of the matter and enough had been done.
It must be a quiet time for news, because it's a bit of a no story really.

I would like to see the actual footage of it,

I think that was the point ...

It's a pathetic PR job trying to drum up publicity for a show that, while once fun to watch, jumped the shark years ago. I'm not aware of any genuine "outrage" or "disrespect". So transparent.

I'm going to boycott sticky tape from now on, I think the word Sellotape is too close to Cenotaph and it is disrespectful.

There were complaints in a town I lived in about the Maypole and Morris dancing being near the Cenotaph, as being disrespectful. The soloution broached by the complainants was to put the Maypole and children in the road ..... Which would mean another memorial for the squished children.

I've sworn off senna pods for much the same reason, TooMuchofEverything.

Phew! I've also been puzzling over this one. It's been headline news on the tv and radio but no-one has actually said why it's disrespectful.

I think that was the point ... to make a judgement I should say.

personally I think it was completely disgraceful - not for any 'respect' reasons, but because London was blanketed in health-damaging smog, and it was entirely inappropriate for them to be playing with stinking cars (and closing roads, increasing congestion/pollution) while the rest of us cough.

Given pretty much every London based demo swarms past it and it's a major bus route I can't see the problem. Did they spit at it or something?

London is heavily polluted anyway one car isn't going to do much harm.

I don't get it either. I saw the headlines and thought the way I they were carrying on he must of shat on it. Confused

It was the third headline on the lunchtime BBC news!

Its such a non story it must be to scrape some free publicity for Top Gear and its new presenters Confused

Chris Evans has said that they will never show the footage recorded near the cenotaph though

They seem desperate for publicity. The pictures of them doing donuts outside St Paul's when a poor bride was making her way down the steps made me eye roll. Anything for a headline.

Report
floppyjogger · 14/03/2016 13:43

They dont need to show it now, we've all seen it!

Top Gear has got headlines on TV and in the major newspapers so job done on the publicity front, all for the sake of a couple of donuts Grin
