AIBU: Not wanting birthday celebration

On Wednesday it is my birthday (43, sigh), as well as DP's best friend's birthday. I'm 19 weeks pregnant, have 2 kids aged 3 and 6, and work full time. We recently moved house, and it is still very chaotic. I've been nauseous since I fell pregnant, so I'm not exactly my best.

DP announced last night that he and the friend have arranged they will invite a few people over for a braai at our place (BBQ, we're South African) on Wednesday evening to celebrate our birthdays. It's a week night, I'm exhausted anyway, and I cannot think of anything worse that having people over. DP has assured me that it will be an early night, but I know his friend (a delightful guy), but he doesn't really do early nights.

I just said no way, I'm not interested in any birthday celebration. A cake and blowing out candles with the kids is more than sufficient.

I'd be willing to consider doing something over the weekend, but the friend will be out of town.

OH was a bit taken aback, but I said no bloody way. It's my birthday.

Why do men not understand, I suppose because they have never been pregnant. I don't think you are unreasonable and I hope he understands. If they go ahead I would make it clear the clearing up is all down to him and that you are going to bed when you have had enough.

Good luck.

Yanbu. I'd never celebrate mine if I could get away with it.
