I am dyslexic when I'm upset it makes it worse so please no bashing.

Me and DC were walking home earlier, DC1 (7) needed me for something so we had stopped walking so I was facing her towards the hedge DC2 (5) holding the pram and DC3 (2) in the pram. Suddenly a car speeded into their drive never seen a car drive so fast into their drive before right behind us about 30-40CM, I was shocked and waited a few minutes for her to leave the car so I could point out the fact if DC2 stepped backwards she'd of been run over, I did so politely and she told me I knew she was there, she was miles away from us and had CTV to prove it, I replied that it was good she had CTV she can show the police and all she had to do was honk her horn next time to make people she was aware she was turning and she ranted on and walked into her house.

When I got home I called the 101 to report her, I was told there is nothing they can do because there is no independent witness this cant be right can it? If DD2 stepped backwards she would of been ran over and what if it happens again and she hits a child? at that speed it wouldn't be a small knock.

WIBU to report this to someone else? if there is anyone else...

too add the police lady I spoke too said she fully understood, said she doubled checked that she couldn't even get anyone to knock on the door.

I think unfortunately unless it is seen happening there isn't much you can do. I got very disillusioned when I called the non emergency number to report a father who had hit my car ( all but v slowly) and when he opened the car door it stank of weed. I had a number plate, contact details and knew when he would be back to collect his kid and they told me it was just like smoking... At that point I gave up

Bit your dd didn't step back? The police can't do anything about something which might have happened

In the nicest possible way you need to calm down. She was probably going too fast. However you have told her yourself and whatever she said to you she will no doubt have had a twinge of worry that she was too fast. There is absolutely nothing you can do as it is simply your word against hers and there was no accident. To continue harping on about it and asking who else you can report it too is a bit ridiculous. A truck nearly pushed me off the road the other day and I ended up in the ditch, thinking dd and I could have died. I have however moved on from it which is what you need to do now. Maybe you also need to consider how close you were to your child and whether you need to be holding their hand.

My main concern is her doing again and a child been ran over, she pulled in extremely fast and we live in an area with loads of young children on a school route.

cansu DC3 was holding the pram and even if she was holding my hand she would of been hit by the car.

You also have a responsibility to make sure your children are safe near driveways. Bit stupid to stop so close to one.

Unfortunately, you can't have the police haring round to every report of dangerous driving or parking or drivers getting angry with each other. The reason being that these complaints are pretty much constant between drivers (and pedestrians).

From personal experience, a lot of people have much more spurious reasons for expecting a police investigation. It'll end up a lot of he said she said and is not a good use of police time if no one has actually been hurt.

I am sorry you had a fright, no harm done and as there was no incident there's nothing to be done

Gin makes a decent point, you'll not stop so close by a driveway again

Have a cup of tea Brew and put your feet up

But nothing happened and there's only your word to say how close it was. She'll say you're just being overprotective and there was no danger. They can't do anything without evidence.

So she pulled into her driveway, and you want the police to arrest her for dangerous driving because IF your daughter had moved she MIGHT have run over her?

Report
ilovesooty · 10/03/2016 18:57

I think this is ridiculous and I imagine the police have better things to do.

Report
Plomino · 10/03/2016 18:59

Unfortunately , police can't deal with the 'might have's' . Otherwise they'd never deal with anything else . But I do understand that it's frightened you .

Sorry bit you're being silly, she could see you and you weren't Looking do he probably has a much better idea.of how close it really was and whether she was safe to pull into her own drive.

I think the Police attitude is to do nothing if they can get away with it

Report
inlawsfromhell · 10/03/2016 19:05

I didn't want her to be arrested! I would like for them to knock on her door and remind her to drive more carefully so she doesn't hit a child or adult what’s so wrong about not wanting a child to be hurt? If you had seen how close she was to us and how fast she was I would hope you would feel the same.

I hope she takes notice and is more careful in future as cansu said

Police are supposed to prevent crimes as well as deal with the aftermath

Report
inlawsfromhell · 10/03/2016 19:16

I know my distances (seamstress) the furthest she was was 40CM probably 30CM at closest my fear is she will hit a child its the sped that scared me the most hitting a child at that sped would cause serious harm.

How would you feel if someone hit your child who had been reported but the police took no action? They didn't even take my name or address or the drivers.

I agree with you OP they stop erratic drivers all the time
The police should speak to her

Report
specialsubject · 10/03/2016 19:54

she will crash eventually driving that stupidly. All you can do is note the numberplate and stay well clear.

also if she was screaming along that fast and that close, didn't you hear the car coming?

there are a lot of bad drivers around; phone users, tailgaters etc etc. We all need to stay aware and that includes pedestrians.

glad nothing actually happened.

Report
ilovesooty · 10/03/2016 20:11

If the police had seen anything untoward or there was independent proof they might have spoken to her. They didn't take any details because there was nothing to investigate that could be verified.

Report
Oooblimey · 10/03/2016 20:21

Are you for real? You have seen how many police have been cut? You do realise that they are so short staffed they struggle to get to actual crimes? And you want an officer to go round to a house and tell a lady off because on your say so (no independant witnesses - and even if there were, so what? No accident actually happened) she drove too fast into her drive way.
You need to give your head a wobble.

Report
ctjoy103 · 10/03/2016 20:23

You're so ridiculous. Why did you stop so close to the side? It's really your responsibility to keep your children safe.

Report
FlyingRussianUnicorn · 10/03/2016 20:31

Some pretty harsh responses here Confused- no need really.

OP you do need to calm down. Nothing happened but you clearly had a bit of a shock and your reacting to that. Have a Brew and put your feet up and don't worry about it!
