I'd start with small, manageable steps. Maybe cutting down portion sizes and reducing snacking.

I'd developed a bit of chocolate habit and decided I needed to cut it out. I've tried giving up chocolate, biscuits etc for a while before now, but didn't seem to have much will power.
This time I changed how I talk to myself. So instead of saying "I'm not going to eat any chocolate this month" or "Remember, you've given up chocolate" I just say "I don't eat chocolate".

It's really weird, because it's worked so easily. I'm quite kind to myself, because I still let myself have chocolate cake or chocolate flavoured desserts, but I don't have bars of chocolate.

I've got a bar of posh chocolate and 2 boxes of chocolates (including my favourite kind) that I was given at Christmas, that I haven't even opened. Sometimes I see them and just say "I don't eat chocolate" and I find I honestly don't fancy trying one.

btw I always "say it" in my head - dp and dd would be giving me funny looks if I said it out loud.

I've joined slimming world. I still over eat but am losing weight steadily. It's what I eat now that helps. You are allowed treats, and could have choc every day of I want to, but I often feel too full from the other stuff! Being in the right frame of mind is key.

Following SW or WW is what helps for me - for a time. Till I fall off it.

I'm pretty sure I have a BED and wondering what can break that cycle as I'm such an emotional eater of junk food

Do you still get those hungry moments Star, you know the ones where you know you can't really be hungry yet you are desperate to eat something?
I have wondered about surgery but think my problem is more in my head

On a good week, I do 7 - effing 7 - exercise classes a week

AND I walk my dog every day.

But I drink like there's a drought coming, and pig crisps. I'm my own worst enemy!

Yes I know what you mean
Yes I do ....call them head hunger as opposed to actual hunger...but somehow it's not as bad...? And if I do feel I'm in need of treats well...I can't eat much of them! I'm limited so it's not so hard IYSWIM.
So if I have an extra snack, well yes I do try to choose healthy snacks if I can, but if I can't resist, well then I only a fraction of what I would have had before! So I don't beat myself up over it. It's normal anyway isn't it to have a treat now and again....
Does that make sense?

It has to be yoga for me, and especially any bust twisting pose. After a couple months, I now just cannot eat after I reach satiation point while before I actually enjoyed the feeling of being full (it was comforting to me). It does not have to be "Olympic style yoga", just sitting/standing/lying down with a straight back and basically reaching the fingertips to one side and the lower body to the other side and breathe works (look up videos on YouTube). I have no idea how it helps reducing the amount you can eat without feeling sick, but it worked wonders on me!

Sheer willpower combined with never looking beyond the day I'm in. (Although I'm doing weight watchers so obviously that is my blueprint)

except on shopping day when I buy knowing that what I buy will turn into what meals for the week. I also allow myself a snack for each evening so that's added to the shopping but no more than will cover that week. (So if I eat it all in one go Iv not blown the month!)

I also plan for a healthyish takeaway and half a bottle of wine on sat nights.

Some days I fail but if that happens I draw a line and start fresh. I am adamant a blip will not become a blowout!

Iv lost 2 stone in 35 weeks. It would have been more but I put on 6lb at Xmas. Iv got another 1 1/2 stone to go to get to the top end of a healthy bmi

My view is no target just aim to have a loss each week no matter how small and if don't try again the next week.

I did find weighing myself on a tracking app EVERY day was motivation as it calculated for me how long I had to go until goal and adjusted to much longer after days I hadn't followed SW strictly

But then SW instructor had a rant about not weighing more than once a week and I fell off the plan entirely so will ignore her and eventually get back to both

Jolly, you mean a spinal twist? I do that nearly daily as part of workout cool down?

OP, I'm losing weight too. Most risk for me is boredom snacking at work. Sheer willpower ...wish there was another way. Refused a slice of someone's birthday cake three times last week, he just kept on.

My mum has lost over 3.5 stone - she's been overweight my whole life. She's went through stages of losing 2 stone here and there but always put it back on. It seems different this time.

She bought Slimming World magazines, she won't go to classes, she walks about 3 miles five times a week, has cut out wine, doesn't have sweets/biscuits/crisps in the house. After about 6 weeks she just seemed to completely view her eating differently. She feels amazing, she is so chuffed with herself. At the minute she's gone from a size 22 to a size 18.

I wanted to lose the weight enough to pack it in. I was desperate to lose weight. Every Time I eat I think about wether what I am eating is helping or hindering me.

In the first few weeks every time I got that urge to eat, I had fruit. I was eating tons of the stuff. After 3 weeks I found I naturally wasn't reaching for snacks all the time.

I'm carrying 2 stone extra after having ds. I was doing some serious overeating. I got a Fitbit and started walking. Now when I think of eating something I think of all the steps I've been doing to try to lose weight. I just think is it worth it? If the answer is yes I go ahead and eat it. If I don't really want it bad I just leave it. So far it's working. Early days though.

I have lost 6 stone. The first 4 I lost through wil power alone I was in a place at that point I had never been where mentally I was ready and determined to make the change. I think my biggest slip up though was I had two target events very close to each other and when they had passed I let my habits slip so started putting weight back on.

I then joined slimming world, for me the eating wasn't much different to what I did already - just with a whole host of new recipes to try - proper homecooked healthy meals, I go to a group with no guilt attached and a very realistic leader. I am now 4lb from target so have joined the 'social committee' to help each week at group simply so I have to keep going so I don't lose my focus!

Slimming World has worked for me in the past but I can't get to meetings at the moment so I'm tracking on MyFitnessPal which is all calories so very different. I'll let you know how it goes. Want to lose 4st. That sounds really hard though and it makes me sad typing it. I don't know how things got so bad.

I lost 6 and a half stone doing 5:2. It's not cured my overeating habit but if I overeat one day I fast the next to balance it out.
I've maintained my weight loss now for over 2 months.
I've been overweight my entire life and I've gone from being a size 22/24 to a 12/14.

Slimming world. They say you can eat as much as you like but after about four weeks my appetite just disappeared and all of a sudden I was eating like a normal person. Three small meals a day and fruit in between, never hungry.

It's actually impossible for me to binge eat now, and I never thought I'd ever say that.

It's exercise for me. I'm not good at dieting as I just think about food ALL the time. So I have to increase calories lost rather than decrease those going in.

Also I could seriously eat non stop all day long and being told I can't have somethjng just makes me want to so the other thing that works for me is when I'm reaching for the junk food is distraction. I have to tell myself I am not going to open the biscuits quite yet, but in xx 15?30? minutes. I'm so pea brained that by the time that comes about I've usually forgotten and am happily engrossed in something else.
