AIBU to ask if you've got fat thighs?

Just had to ditch another pair of trousers as they had holes on the inside seams where my fat thighs rub together!! Is there anything I can do to avoid this (always happens even with jeans). Can fat thighs ever really change and how? I swim and walk a lot but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Yes, I am strong of lower limb grin - always have been.
Rubbed many a pair of trousers through at the inseam.

The only thing that helped was overall weight loss, sorry.
I am now a BMI of 23 and while I don't have a thigh gap (that was never going to happen) my trousers seem to last a bit longer. I am doing about 5-10km of walking every day and that's it.

allegretto Sat 05-Mar-16 21:30:09

My BMI is actually 22 but just not very well distributed!

allegretto Sat 05-Mar-16 21:30:43

23 meant to say!

PacificDogwod Sat 05-Mar-16 21:33:01

Ah, well, can you console yourself with the fact that women with larger thighs/bums/hips have a lesser cardiovascular risk than thick-waisted, slim-legged people??

Naw, did not work for me either wink

Have you tried yoga/pilates/stretches to elongate muscles rather than adding bulk?
Or, alternatively find the trousers you love and keep replacing them (which is what I did/do).

I also have thunder thighs and have the same problem. My BM is definitely not 23 though wink.

I have thick thighs and a small waist and get the Jean rub all the time! Just embrace your inner Beyoncé and flaunt it. (I usually find a pint of wine helps with the inner Beyoncé thing)

allegretto Sat 05-Mar-16 21:35:45

Yes I think that might be easier!

There was a proper to do here in Canada about rubbing thighs... www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/12/03/lululemon-rubbing-thighs-window_n_4379280.html You are not alone.

Love that umbongo I've always had huge thighs and boobs... Tiny waist

The DP doesn't complain about the boobs or thighs so just go with it

I have to get rid of jeans all the time due to the"rub" I've just come to accept it, I think we see what we hate in our bodies and others love what we hate

Embrace your body OP!!!

Bane of my life!! Can hardly ever find trousers in my waist size that will go higher than my knee.

JhurstB Sat 05-Mar-16 21:40:44

My BMI is 22, I have a pear shape so hips/thighs are the biggest part of my body. I'm short as well which draws attention to them. I'm 5'2 and just over 8 & a half stone. Trying to find a pair of jeans that will fit is a nightmare!

Yep, another thunder thighs here. The top of my thigh circumference measures the same as a slim girls' waist measurement. Yes, I'm embarrassed about it. Yes my trousers, tights etc wear out at the thigh.

Jeans wearing through at the inseam has been the bane of my life since I was a teenager.

I hate wearing trousers as it highlights my huge thighs, however it keeps my thighs from chafing. I've seen those, 'comfort shorts' but I've yet to buy any.

I wear leggings to the gym or any other exercise as I need to get my BMI down. Best keep trying.

When I was at school, my thighs would chafe until they bled when I was walking to school, walking around, then walking home again. The walk home was the worst as by then the chafing was at it's height.

I would go home, wash and dry myself. The chafing would heal up over night then my thighs would chafe until they bled all over again the next day. Summer was hell. As in, 'it's a nice day, why don't you go and put your shorts on ?' (Some people just didn't get it !)

I used to take talcum powder to school. Whilst I was in the girls toilets I would use it to dry off the area affected by chafing, to dress it somehow. This was 1979 to 1983. The year makes no difference I suppose.

Yes, I heard about the huge payout made by Johnson and Johnson to someone who has cervical cancer caused by using their talcum powder.

There's a product available presently that deals with chafing whether it be the arms or anywhere really. It looks like a tube of something sold by a chemist.

Bloody massive thighs, always have had, no matter what weight I have been.

PacificDogwod Sat 05-Mar-16 21:45:50

I find running shorts under clothes v helpful.
Just sayin' blush

Just not spending a lot of money on jeans is probably the key.
Or you could re-organise your wardrobe around skirts & tights/leggings? No, I can't be arsed either.

I am ridiculously pear shaped. Lost some weight recently, and dropped a couple of dress sizes. Went shopping, strode confidently into the changing rooms, thinking, I am now a size 14, and I can wear skinny jeans, dammit!
Looked in mirror.
shock
No. <shudder> Let us never try that again.

MrsTerryPratchett Sat 05-Mar-16 21:46:55

Toasted have you tried the Glide stuff cyclists use? Those people know about chafing...

I am a fellow thunder thighs

HermioneWeasley Sat 05-Mar-16 21:59:48

I am massive of thigh. Always have been and I suspect always will be.

pointythings Sat 05-Mar-16 21:59:51

Yep, me too. Had this all my life, even when I was at my very thinnest with a BMI under 20. So I've said sod it and just not spent a lot of money on trousers. I can just about get jeans that fit me, though I am not buying new ones now as I am in the process of losing lots of weight. I've dropped two dress sizes, I have to wear a sash round my jeans because they end up on the floor after half a dozen steps if not. However, since I have another 18 kilos to lose I am not buying new jeans until I'm there. And they still won't fit quite perfectly because of the thighs nature gave me. So be it.

I'm just glad I'm 5'11''.

MistressDeeCee Sat 05-Mar-16 22:00:49

Sturdy thighs here. I like that, I think it looks good. But agree, the wearing out of jeans thing is a pain. I've had to patch mine before but I hate it. Straight leg jeans seem to last longer than skinnies

NothingButAHoundDog Sat 05-Mar-16 22:01:02

I have found my people!
Massive thunder thighs here. No matter if I'm fat thin or inbetween (bit of a yoyo dieter) my thighs stay huge. Trying to find jeans that fit my large thighs and my smaller waist is a nightmare.

HowBadIsThisPlease Sat 05-Mar-16 22:03:11

I have massive thighs but I don't get this because.... I have very wide hips as well. I don't think it's about how thick your thighs are as much as how wide they are placed apart. Sorry. I can't think how a bunter like me gets away without chub rub but somehow I do.

But on the downside I am blatantly and inescapably broad and stocky no matter what I do. Right now I am fat too, but when I am slim I'm still like a barn door. So - there's no ideal shape really

Toasted, sorry about all that when you were at school. Things like that are so tough when you are young. Back then it wasn't done to talk to grown ups about things, was it? flowers
