AIBU?

AIBU to think the presents I bought my mum for Mother's Day presents are rubbish? :(

Hello everyone!
I'm already very forgetful but due to some recent events I won't go into my memory and organisation have been even worse lately. This led to me hectically buying my mum a gift for Mother's Day today, on my lunch break.

I bought her a tiny box of chocolates as none of the bigger boxes were left, gloves, thermal socks, a card and two jumpers. To explain the gloves and socks, she rides a bike to and from work six days a week, she's been complaining recently her feet are always freezing hence the socks and the gloves are specifically for bike riding.

Do you think this enough? I feel terrible for leaving it so last minute and grabbing things off the shelves without putting much thought into them :(

Those gifts sound plenty and thoughtful. I just got my mum a plant and a card. I'm sure your mum will appreciate all her presents.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

Sounds fine - I completely forgot it was Mother's Day so I didn't get anything. Blush

You are not sure if two jumpers, socks, gloves and chocolates are enough??

Is your mum a little high maintenance OP and that's why you're worried? I think it's more than enough. I never see my mum on Mother's Day. She's always in Wales as the caravan site opens this week. I just send her a text and that's fine.

You're supposed to buy presents? I just get a card and bunch of flowers.

Yours sound fine OP.

Mine is getting a small candle set and £20. She will appreciate the cash most out of the two!

I would much rather get stuff I would use than flowers. Sound like good gifts to me.

It's not a contest to see who can buy the most presents.

Mine is getting a card, supermarket roses and a book. It's only supposed to be a token isn't it?+

Er my mum is getting a card.

They are very thoughtful gifts.

I send flowers or a plant type thing every year.

Sounds like quite a lot really. I hate all this commercialisation of special days like Mothers Day etc. There really is no need for it and it probably causes more angst all round than joy and most of us would probably be happier if none of it existed.

If it makes you feel better I bought my mum a single gift at an airport while travelling on business yesterday. It is quite nice though really and is probably one of the better gifts I have bought her over the years but the truth is that I hate shopping and think that most of the stuff in the shops is overpriced pointless tat that I wouldn't wish on anybody. I still need to get a card though and I might make a cake of some description if I get around to it in the next 24 hours before I see her tomorrow afternoon.

I sent my mum some flowers and a card and the DCs have made drawings.

I am sure your Mum will love what you have bought her. You say you feel guilty because it felt a bit rushed. She won't know that though. What would you have bought her if you had realised earlier?

You have clearly raised the bar! DM and Mil got moonpigged cards... Sure your mum will love the gifts.

That's loads!
Mother's Day is a load of tosh anyway
I'm nipping to Tesco later for a card and a green candle (she's just redecorated her living room green, it's not that random)

Sorry to be so cynical, but I think you know perfectly well that five thoughtfully-chosen presents and a card is more than ample so I'm wondering what the sub-text is here. Are you frequently told by your mum that what you do isn't good enough, or is this some sort of stealth boast?

They sound very thoughtful. All I've got for my Mum is a card and a blue ceramic plant pot filled with her favourite bulbs from Waitrose.

Very thoughtful OP. I got my mum fudge, New pj, and a little jar sowing kit. From my side I'm not on good terms with my mum but I know she will throw a hissy fit because I didmt get anything from lush or a matalan voucher. Mothers day brings out the worst in some.

The 2 jumpers take it from lovely to over the top, for me. I've got my mum a card & some nice posh hand cream. No idea if I'll get anything - I'll be grateful for a card from my teenagers.
