AIBU?

to be terribly upset when I come across stories of animal abuse?

This morning I was taking a look at the Metro in the tube and there were two articles about awful stories of animal abuse. It made me feel sick the whole morning.

In the last few years I noticed my sensitivity to animal abuse has become more and more pronounced, up to the point that I am sometimes scared of checking my FB feeds because I fear someone may have uploaded some upsetting pictures of animal abuse (I guess they post them with good intentions, but they are terribly upsetting for me).

I sometimes feel overwhelmingly sad and powerless thinking about how many animals suffer in the world.

I wonder why and how some people are so cruel with animals. What is wrong with them to be so insentive to pain and suffering?

Do you think it is normal to feel this way about animal abuse or AIBU?

I feel the same way. It would take a pretty cold person to feel nothing on hearing about the ill treatment of defenceless animals.

Unless you are vegan YAB a bit U...

But yes, if you are not affected by animal (or human) abuse I would be a bit worried about you Grin

It upsets me too, but I like to be aware of it, so that people can get upset and angry enough to demand justice and change for the better. I hate to think of things going on in silence, and nobody cares. Although I can never read the details of some abuse stories, animals or people.

Look OP, it's good that you care, of course, but I do get a bit impatient with meat eaters who are OK with grim lives and inhumane deaths for animals considered 'livestock' but appalled by abuse meted out to animals our culture doesn't class as edible.

Of course it's normal to be disgusted by animal abuse. It's sickening. Poor little defenceless kittens and puppies being beaten. I mean HTF could anyone do that.

Cream I am actually vegetarian and I have been for the last 6 years but I did not want to pull that topic into this discussion. I don't think only vegetarians/ vegans have a right to feel upset about animal abuse.

You can't compare people who eat meat, to those who put microwave, scaled, beat, animals.

It's not a comparison. It's just that with many causes it is the cute high profile bit that gets noticed not the background as it were.

In this thread horrific animal abuse set against a more general backgeohnd if animal mistreatment (not just in the meat industry by any means)

Another example might be the outpouring of emotion about that toddler lykng dead ona Greek beach, when in general no-one gives a shit about refugees.

Or the massive worldwide effort to save the panda, when other species are going extinct unnoticed every day...

YANBU. I donate quite a lot to dog charities. Much more than any other charity. .I can't bear to hear about the terrible stories of abuse. With the right homes these dogs can have their lives turned around though, so it can be heartening in some ways. They just rely on humans totally and its their pure rotten luck they go into an abusive home Sad, nothing they can do about it.
