AIBU?

Hang on, where did the the 'What We're Reading' topic come from?

I guess this probably was discussed and so I am undoubtedly BU.

But I don't like that name

I want to talk about some books. In general. Not what I'm reading right now. I want to talk about the recent casting of a very famous series of books. Which is clearly not 'what I'm reading' right now. In fact, I haven't read it for several years. But I do want to find people who have read the books and might be interested in chatting about it. Which clearly would have been the "Adult Fiction" board.

Sigh.

I have no idea how MN seems to have so many different boards, and yet no longer seems to have one simply about "books I like".

Maybe I'm getting old and curmudgeonly...

YANBU. Very annoying and pointless to change. What was wrong with Adult Fiction?

I'm glad someone else gets it! Film chat is still "Films", music chat is still "Music", why is books chat so specific? Confused

I think it's because people always kept mistaking it for erotic fiction Hmm

But it is weird especially when they claim to have been trying to make the topic names shorter and clearer, and they've made this one longer and more odd.

They changed it a few months ago. Was it because almost no-one ever looked at the non fiction section and sometimes discussed non fiction in the fiction section?

So what we're reading now covers everything, including blogs and magazines as well as books.

Hmm. I kind of get that, but what if want to talk about something that you're not reading right now?

Absolutely agree! I thought it was just me.

Agree with op. And I also thought it was just me.

I'm going to report this and see if MN answer. I don't get where we're supposed to just talk about books?

Odd. Why couldn't they have just called it "Books". It's not like people talk about magazines often enough to warrant a topic and a blog is very different to books to me.

Report
Thurlow · 02/03/2016 15:54

Exactly. I kept clicking on the "Books" bit on the list of topics before I realised that that was just a topic headline, not a board. And then stared at the lists for a while trying to work out which board might actually be the one where you can just generally chat about books.

Oh is that what that is? I'd been looking out for Adult Fiction for GH book club and wondering why I hadn't seen it.

Changing topic names is all very well, but this was a big change without a big fanfare.

I noticed that a few weeks ago - I was looking for Adult Fiction - I was had a bit of a disgruntled mutter to myself about it. I've grudgingly accepted it now - as long as they promise not to change it again for at least 15 years.

It was to confound the hard of thinking who genuinely believed that 'Adult Fiction' was for discussions of Fifty Shades and the Black Lace Mills and Boon 'saucy' imprint. Grin

I agree, though. Nothing wrong with 'Books'.

Books would be fine. 'What We're Reading' sounds like circle time at Primary School.

And obviously it isn't just what people are currently reading - it's about all sorts.

YANBU

Thanks for your feedback. We changed this after requests to amalgamate non-fiction and fiction and we did announce it at the time.

We take your point if you don't like the topic title, but we don't want it to be called Books as the topic section is called this. Do post up any suggestions and we'll discuss.

YANBU, I thought this too, especially as I was planning starting a Kindle Unlimited reading list, but was a bit put off by the new title.

Thanks HQ.

Could it be something as generic as General Book Chat?

(Though I have to say, there is a board in the Education topic called... Educaiton Grin)

Another vote for book chat.

I like Book Chat. It doesn't mean it's fiction or non-fiction.
