Grin

NC (does chicken noises)
I am laughing about this by the way.

History:
I have a school friend who I have known through the DC for about 2 years now- very friendly, lots of sleepovers with the kids/camping/going out for dinner.
They all had been hit by the flu bug a couple of weeks ago and as I would ask for any friend I offered help. I was thinking I could make some soup of bread for them, run some errands etc.

"Yes actually you could help"
Pause
"Can XXXX (Dh's name) come and tile our utility room? "We're all so ill we're not able to manage it"

Grin

Well I wasn't sure how to answer that so did the usual "he will come out and give you a quote when you're feeling better" was met with her hanging up on me.

The woman has not spoken to me since.

Cheeky, much?

Well you did ask!

Of course you are not bu. I can't believe the cheek of some people.

That is so funny! The cheeky woman.

I'm trying to imagine how she's justifying ending the friendship. It would be worth setting up another friend to ask her.

She hung up and is now sulking with you because you wouldn't commit your husband on the spot to coming and tiling their utility room for free??

Dodged a bullet there, m'girl. The cheeky mare.

It came as a complete surprise. She isn't responding to any emails/texts and has blanked me at school. We have found the whole exchange funny but I am thinking what we could've possibly done that was so bad. Confused

I could understand if one of them had a terminal illness and the utility was half done and money was short due to the illness, then it might be acceptable to ask for help but flu???

So your husband does this for a living? Has she ever hinted that he should work on their house before this?

Report
ImperialBlether · 23/02/2016 09:57

Yes but it was the OP who asked if she could do a favour, not her husband!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 23/02/2016 09:57

Acasual, does that mean you're free? And helpful?!

IamTheSlayerofCakes · 23/02/2016 09:59

Yes Brie my dh is the most generous man ever really kind and he blew this off straight away, well- he thought it was a joke as did I at first.

Her Dh is ignoring mine too Confused they used to go out one evening a week!

Part of me thinks you should confront them on this but really I wouldn't be bothered having anything more to do with them.

Just out of interest, how long has their utility room needed tiling?

Report
IamTheSlayerofCakes · 23/02/2016 10:01

Imperial yes he does and no she has never hinted but it's funny hindsight isn't it? I feel like I've been conned really- I do invest a lot in a good friendship- I'm wondering if she's a bit of a serial opportunist she's very good at charming people. I didn't think I'd fall for something like this.

That's hilarious. Could we have a sweepstake on how long it'll take her/them to work through and piss off ALL their school 'friends'?

IamTheSlayerofCakes · 23/02/2016 10:11

The Utility has needed doing since the summer (we were there and then here all summer)

hmmm she has had quite a few friends at the school who she has cooled with but I thought it was because her friendship grew with me Blush
She doesn't seem to have fallen out with anyone BTW

So she hasn't fallen out with the electrician's wife, the builder's wife, the plumber's wife? Grin (Sorry to sound sexist here.)

Bingo. She's asked them all to do her tiling/plumbing/garden/hoover the stairs.

It's only a matter of time, OP.

Can your husband actually tile?

I'd send mine round happily if someone asked that of me. It would serve them right, they'd end up with a lot of broken tiles, and half a dozen randomly stuck on the wall Grin If they're lucky...
