To think that parents on the school run are the most selfish and entitled driver on the roads?

There's is a big debate locally to where I live regarding school run parents and the chaos they cause when going to either pick up or drop off their kids at school. It mainly concerns the primary school a few streets away from me where residents have been complaining that school run parents are blocking driveways etc and then when challenged have been saying things like "oh its only for a few minutes". Knowing the area as well as I do I know that most families are within a short walk of the school, so why do they even needs to ferry their kids back and forth in a car?

I happen to work at another local school that has a sign on the gates saying that car park is for staff and taxis only, but due to parents ignoring it the headteacher now has to go out and stand in front of the gates to prevent parents using it. The roads outside are a nightmare, and I feel sorry for the people who live there. Its like there's a sense of entitlement that because they are either dropping off or picking up rh their children from school they can park wherever they like.

YABU. Not all school run parents are as you describe. I'm certainly not!

Our school is quite good actually, whilst there's obviously a higher volume of traffic at drop off/pick up. Everyone is rather civil and doesn't park across driveways or OK zigzags.

I sometimes do a school run with my garndson. It's about 2 miles and he's still small. My biggest peeve is the twats who are coming the other way to do their school run.

The idiots are always driving too fast (most roads around here are 20mph), cuttimg corners and half of them are on their frigging mobiles.

Another local school, which is Victorian and surrounded by terraced streets, has had to get the police involved on several occasions to ease traffic chaos and tensions with local residents. Think lots of double parking, actually blocking junctions, parking on bends etc.

We live opposite a school. It's a nightmare. They were used to our house being occupied by an elderly lady who didn't drive, so when we moved in and started asking people to move (so we could bring our DC to school - they didn't get into the nearest school) we were told "but I always park here".

They also frequently park across the bottom of my parents long driveway and disappear for up to an hour. (They live opposite us). If I happen to be home and see it, I make sure to call the school and remind them of the double yellow line and the ambulances that have had to get up that driveway urgently over the past year ... And they get great pleasure in telling me to call the police. They are nearly as irritated with the bad parking as we are.

There are plenty of nice considerate school run drivers. It's a small but irritatinf minority that are the problem.

Here's my entitled tale...I live a minutes walk from my son's school but another of my dc gets dropped off by minibus as he goes to a sn school. There is often no space for the bus to pull in so it stops in the road and the chaperone brings my son to the door. I've had school parents beep at the bus repeatedly because they've been held up for all of 45 seconds. Unfuckingbelievable.

I think the problem these days is the huge volume of kids being dropped and picked up. There was never the same amount when I was at school. My kids are still in nursery so I have to drive them but I think teenagers these days must melt in the rain or something..

It is shocking how some parents park illegally and just dump their cars.
They cause so much trouble and are unsafe, all because little johnny couldn't possibly walk a few metres more if they parked safely.
We see them parked on the brow of hills, parked over driveways, causing traffic obstructions.

In my area the driving instructors advise when booking your driving test that you don't do it during the school run as passes are very, very rare due to the unpredictable nature of parents who've realised they may be late.

The school run didn't exist when I was a kid. DM walked me to school until I was about eight or nine, then I started to find my own way. I didn't get knocked over or abducted a pedophile. Neither did any of my friends. I think the only time we were picked up the car was if we were going somewhere afterward.

I'm always aghast to see teenagers getting ferried back and to to school, hell at that age they should be getting the bloody bus!

It was quite usual, when I picked up my grandchildren from school, for there to be a stand off between cars travelling in opposite directions when the road width is reduced by parked cars on both sides of the road. People often got out of their cars and yelled at one another, refusing to reverse out of the way. Mind you, the road was blocked for the entire length.

When my grandson broke his leg and was in plaster from foot to high, my daughter in law had special permission to park in the car park, so she could get the wheelchair out. Often she would find someone had either blocked her in, or parked in the space reserved for her.

Mind you, I spent my working life in and around schools and don't know of one where there ar no parking problems.

Parents parking over drive ways/across double yellows/on grass verges. Do the parents listen? Haha no!

It's stupid these parents that claim they have to drive are always the ones parked up for 30 minutes - 1hour before pick up or drop off. I'm waiting for the day the local residents petition for it all to be double yellowed and for daily wardens I will happily sign it. They paid a very high premium to live there and are having the local area ruined by inconsiderate parents.

There is nearly an accident every week, the bus can be stuck for up to 30 minutes trying to get past as the parents insist they can fit past the bus when they really cannot without going into the grass due to the marked parking spaces.

I will admit my heart lights up when I see the parking wardens out issuing tickets to angry parents.

Our school has a car park open to parents. It has a one way system as it's an odd shape. The same people block the exit to the road every single fucking day as they like to make sure they're not stuck in traffic on the way out. Their new minibus has their company name on it - they're employed by a taxi firm. I'm going to take great delight in reporting them to their boss on a daily basis until they get a fucking grip and tone down their ego.

Our school is an absolute nightmare. It was built for 60 children about the council have asked them to increase the intake year after year so now it is over 300 and due to increase again in September. There isn't parking for this many parents, not even close. Most of us walk if we live nearby but some need to drive due to the location (catchment covers a very busy road which is an accident black spot for pedestrians. No way would I walk my DC along that route)
It is chaos.

The problem with our local schools is that they were not designed to accommodate parking for the numbers now needed. Many of the schools have been extended and our primary school in particular now takes in 600 pupils where once there was just over 100. There are no car parks nearby for parents to use.

We walk to school and always have, despite living 40 minutes walk away. Some parents do drive like idiots and park selfishly but thankfully not all.

Yep. Dd3s primary school has asked parents not to park at lane up the side of school time and time again, ignored by patents who think it doesn't apply to them. School have now blocked it off.
