To ask if anyone's baby has had this ENT problem

Posting for lots of views hopefully someone will see it who's been there.

It's a long story but since my son was born he's had horrible "reflux", projectile vomit, mucusy poos, crying with poos, excessive wind and a constant blocked nose. He's had neocate, gaviscon, carobel, lactulose, omeprazole and NO DIFFERENCE.

He gags on solids and his vomiting recently got worse, it is forceful and enough to soak me and leave puddles. After him not being able to keep anything down we ended up in A&E and I insisted someone do something as I wasn't prepared to take him home.

Finally someone took me seriously and looked in his nose and showed me he has an "enlarged turbinate" blocking one side, meaning he can't breathe properly, causing him to choke when feeding and vomit all the time!

I'm relieved but annoyed because it took 5 minutes to find, you'd think in one of my 32 GP appointments they could have done that instead of dismissing me as being PFB because I wasn't

Anyway I've googled but all info applies to adults and older kids. He's nearly 6 months old. If anyone has had a baby with this please tell me what happened

My 1 year old still suffers from gagging and projectile vomitting but not to your degree, maybe you could try posting this same thread in health and parenting and see if anything pops up.

No experience but didn't want to read and run. At least you've found the cause now and can look at getting the right solution

My DS doesn't have the ENT problem or gagging on solids, but had all the other problems when younger, particularly the reflux and projectile vomuting (thank goodness for steam cleaners, we had puddles everywhere! He used to projectile vomit over our shoulders a lot). Are you sure all the problems are ENT related? Cows milk protein intolerance can cause similar symptoms.

MY DS still has reflux and he is in his teens. eventually worked out it was a nasty bacterial infection that took about 6 months to clear up but took years for them to find this. meanwhile he suffered, vomited everything he ate and caused all of us a lot of grief.

we tried neocate - vile bloody stuff the thought of it/even reading the word makes me gag.

get them to look into bacterial infection just in case. did he swallow merconium at birth?

Yes, lots, he had MAS. He was treated with antibiotics at the time

yep same here thecatsmeow. has to be a thing doesn't it that they swallow it and then get these awful reflux issues. hes off school today with it. every time he gets any sort of bug or virus including colds, he gets hit with the acid reflux. shocking at eating too because he doesn't enjoy it so all sorts of issues there as well. wish I had realised when he was born the problems that it would cause as ime no one really talks about it.

I would get him retested for bacterial infections. we had all sorts of false diagnoses - "its his palate" "hes allergic to milk" "hes allergic to all dairy" "hes allergic to your breast milk" he has adenoid problems, tonsil problems, valve problem you name it, we were diagnosed with it.

eventually after 2 sodding years of failure to thrive and me being at my wits end with nasal feeding tubes, a seriously underweight and miserable child and shit, someone had the idea of doing a clean catch urine test. they looked for the unusual bacteria and found it.

this may not be the problem. make them sort this out. 14 years later I wish I had.

If you need an ENT consultant then get a referral to Birmingham Children's Hospital to see Mr Kuo. He is a marvellous man and was the only one to diagnose my daughter's complicated ENT issues. He is so kind and wonderful with children. Are you anywhere near there?

Mine have all had gastro/ENT issues and the best thing that happened was being referred to a rapid response clinic. I made it clear (after being fobbed off many times by GP) that I was really struggling and life was very difficult. You need to be really assertive. Hope you are coping well OP as I know how hard it can be
