after in broke into my house through my back door; and kept him face down on the floor till the police arrived. How dare someone think they can invade my home and get away with it!?! I don't think I'm in the least bit unreasonable, do you?

AgentZigzag Sun 07-Feb-16 01:45:27

Just a random scrote who'd broken into your house?

Fuck no!

Has someone said you're unreasonable or something?

What did the police have to say about it?

MooPointCowsOpinion Sun 07-Feb-16 01:46:50

Oh lord no YANBU but you are probably in shock, is someone with you?

MadameDePompom Sun 07-Feb-16 01:48:26

.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Sun 07-Feb-16 01:49:41

flowers. You must have got such a shock. You're very brave. I think I'd have just ran and hid, but you don't know how you'd react until you're in that situation. Let that be lesson to him.
How are you in yourself. X

Adarajames Sun 07-Feb-16 01:52:37

Yes just a random bloke, never seen before.
He tried to tell police he was injured and Id attacked him, they basically told him to stfu as he shouldn't have been on my house anyway!
No one with me, just my very brave dog who barked and growled and helped me hold him until police arrived, and they were great, thankfully incredibly swiftly here

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Sun 07-Feb-16 01:57:09

It makes you think Adara. How many other people's homes has he violated and invaded tonight.

pleasegotowork Sun 07-Feb-16 01:59:55

O good for you, that's just fantastic. How empowering.
My sister once disturbed a burgler in her house in the middle of the night and shouted at him to get out. He went to go out the front door and she made him climb out the window he'd climbed in through.

AgentZigzag Sun 07-Feb-16 02:02:15

'He tried to tell police he was injured and Id attacked him'

Honestly, the cheek of the fucker, glad the police told him where to get off though.

<bonio> for DDog

AgentZigzag Sun 07-Feb-16 02:03:24

grin at pleasegotowork's sister and the weird things you do when you're in shock.

Of course YANBU,good for you OP,the sleezy bastard.I hope your okay?

I did the same once, single Mum to 4DC,my baby was only 6 weeks and my security light went on and off and I turned around there was a guy stood there looking straight through my kitchen window at me,he made for my back door and I lost it,screaming, swearing, chasing him.

He got away but the Police were great, they searched for him and found him a few streets away. He'd already broke into someon elses house that same night.
I admitted what I'd done to the Police and they said there's no way they'd have arrested me if I had hit him as I would have been protecting my 4 young children.

Adarajames Sun 07-Feb-16 02:15:03

Was rather shaken, but more angry / pissed off than scared at the time, but shaky since! But was so cross he'd dares invade my home, that it overrode my fear! May not have been most sensible, he could've been armed with knife or whatever I guess, but didn't feel threatened as such, as odd as it sounds, more just really really pissed off at him!
Am
Doing ok now, alth can't sleep as all the adrenaline means i now have majorly twitchy legs

ohtheholidays Sun 07-Feb-16 02:33:32

I felt exactly the same,In my mind I was going how dare you try and get into my house and that was it all I could think was that he was trying to get near my children and my instincts kicked in and I kicked off.

I couldn't sleep for a while after, when it first happened I called the Police and then my parents, they rang my big brothers and they were around here just before the Police so after I'd spoke to the Police I spoke to them for a while and then my parents(they kept ringing me)it really shook them up and then I stuck the kettle on made myself a strong sweet tea, cuddled up with a thick blanket on the sofa and watched some tv for a while.

It did help, the adrenaline calmed down and my heart stopped beating so fast and I managed to nod off after about 90 minutes.

I hope they charge the git and I hope you manage to get some sleep.

TheMaddHugger Sun 07-Feb-16 02:54:00

Muddlewitch Sun 07-Feb-16 03:01:24

Good on you op, hope you are feeling a bit less shaky now, what a horrible shock.

Hissy Sun 07-Feb-16 09:12:39

Hope you're feeling ok now! What a terrible fright.

I'm in awe of your courage! flowers

londonrach Sun 07-Feb-16 09:20:46

Hope you ok op. I know of one chairbound 92 year old that kept a burglar cornered in her lounge with her walking stick until the police arrived when he broke into her house. Make sure you look after yourself today as you had a shock flowers

aLeafFalls Sun 07-Feb-16 09:21:11

Not even slightly unreasonable, the police didn't think you were either.
Hope you got some sleep eventually.
Well done you, Adara, how brave. Well done DDog too.
thanks

pilates Sun 07-Feb-16 09:24:32

Op, well done you. Have you been trained in self-defence, how did you manage to overpower him?

Fairenuff Sun 07-Feb-16 09:32:27

He can still make a complaint of assault against you OP, so be prepared for that.

FairNotFair Sun 07-Feb-16 09:37:41

I admire your cool-headedness, OP. Not sure I would have had the composure to post on MN after such an ordeal.

Fionajsd Sun 07-Feb-16 09:43:10

I'd have done the same, I've been burgled it's an awful experience and if I'd have caught them I'd have hit them with anything I could have got hold of.
Hope your ok x

Quietlifenotonyournelly Sun 07-Feb-16 09:53:28

Good on you OP.
I did something similar after 2 scrotes car thieves stole my car, long story. But basically, all common sense went out of the window and I was thinking how dare they break into and steal my hard worked for possession.
I did get told off by the police and DH though as I had put myself at risk.

NorthernLurker Sun 07-Feb-16 09:55:52

I'm struggling a bit to understand how a woman who needs a walking stick for balance etc managed to keep a presumably fully fit and possibly younger man face down for some time whilst also phoning the police and letting the police in? That's seriously impressive hmm

Crazypetlady Sun 07-Feb-16 09:57:55

I am also struggling here. Sorry if I am wrong but really?
