I'm 40 and single so been dating. Aibu to be put off a 48yr old man be a use the way he texts is like my 12yr old Son.
He will text "no you" instead of "know you", wud instead of would, nite instead of night etc etc...

Would anyone else be put off or am I being fussy?

Plenty will say yabu, but it would put me off too. Unless he's texting from a Nokia 3210 and there's a cap on the number of characters he should use real words! I hate text speak, it makes my eye twitch Angry

That would definitely put me off but I am a grammar snob.

YANBU. Bad grammar is just as off putting as BO or wearing sandals with socks.

YANBU, that would put me off too. It could just be the tip of the iceberg.
Can you find out if he would text 'could of' rather than 'could have', that might be the deciding factor.

It would put me off too, reading texts should not have to take up brain power to translate what is being said unless there is a language difference between sender and recipient

It would definitely put me off. But I always look for reasons to write people off when dating so maybe it shouldn't.

An established friend I could cope with, but not a potential partner.

That would put me off. I wouldn't gel with someone with an old style phone, and with any new phone it's as easy to type full words as txtspk with predictive text and swiping and so on. Messenger services such as WhatsApp cost naff all and most people get basically unlimited texts on their plan, so there's no capacity issue.

Ha! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks correct grammar should used! No excuse at all!
