AIBU?

to be annoyed with rude train couple forcing me out of my seat?

On a long train journey and finally found a seat that was suitable, I always pre book seats and as I need to do work on the train this time I booked a seat that had a table so I could use my tablet. I also always book forward facing seats because I suffer from motion sickness and it gets worse when I travel 'backwards' so to speak and I really didn't fancy feeling nauseated for a journey of several hours.

Unfortunately on this journey my tickets did not have a seat number on them so I just found a suitable seat that was not pre booked and sat there.

The next station we get to a couple get on, his ticket is booked and is the one next to mine. Hers is the one opposite him. She asks me to move because she wants to sit next to her OH. I said, politely, that the seat I was in was not her prebooked seat and that I'd rather not move because I suffer from motion sickness. She was very rude to me and immediately starts saying that 'Oh yes I have that too and I really needs me to move etc etc'. I'm not feeling especially well as have a bad headache in addition to feeling sick so I just moved seats as I couldn't be bothered to argue.

AIBU to be annoyed? The train is pretty busy so there are not many free seats so for the next three hours I'm forced to sit opposite them Angry

Yanbu. Get motion sickness and throw up all over them?!

You just shouldn't have moved , if she can't travel backwards then her OH could have swopped with her . There was no need to argue , no is a complete sentence .

Very odd to book a seat and not have seat number. I thought that was the whole point of booking a seat?

People are unbelievably rude. They booked seats opposite each other and should have realised this when they booked. Why did you move? You should just have stayed there.

YANBU. Going backwards makes me ill. You were there first and not in someone else's seat. She was not unreasonable to ask politely if you would mind moving, but once you said no, she should shut the fuck up and get on with it and not take it out on you. I wouldn't have moved.

Apart from the fact that I wouldn't have moved, I agree with you op.

But why did you move ? She actually booked that seat when she could of booked yours.

But they didn't force you out of your seat. Confused You chose to move. They were unreasonable for pushing when you said no but really I don't think you can reasonably complain about it because you decided to move.

I really hope you feel better though. Flowers

I wouldn't have moved. You had booked. You were there first. Why does her (alleged) motion sickness trump yours? It doesn't!! And don't get me started on this whole "i must sit next to dp" bollocks. If you can't cope for a couple of hours not sitting right next to your dp you need to get a grip!! Also, why couldn't her dp have travelled facing backwards if she gets ill?????

So YANBU to be annoyed but YABU to have moved!! Hope you are not feeling nauseous and horrid now. ......mind you, if you could throw up on the rude woman, that would teach her!!

Nobody forced you to move.

Feeling ill on a train journey is awful, you have my sympathies.
But they didn't force you to move, you chose to move to accommodate them. Not sure why?

Yanbu to be wholly annoyed. I also hate travelling backwards an the woman was v v entitled to expect you to move when she hadn't booked the seat herself

Ywbu to actually move though, and too nice. I would have point blank refused and suggested she find an appropriate seat elsewhere

Why couldn't she swap with her DH so she's facing forwards?

I've never booked a seat without having a seat number allocated.

Should have spent the whole journey dry heaving and wailing about how sick you feel. Would have passed the time!

They didn't force you, you volunteered to move.

I was bought up that "if you don't ask, you don't get", I'm always polite and don't push the point, though.

Ok, ok I know I was forced to move but as I said I'm really not feeling well and in pain and I just didn't have the energy to get into a confrontation about it.

They are now munching paninis and drinking coffee

No idea why the tickets had no seat number, they usually do and I travel on the train a lot! Although you can book a seat with a 'preference' (window seat, etc) but you can't book specific seats so in fairness she wouldn't necessarily have known that they would be opposite as opposed to next to but still, he could have sat in the backwards seat as they were both free!

Mouldy, I've tried travel sickness tablets but they literally knock me out, I can't keep my eyes open when I take them so they do work because I don't feel sick when I'm asleep Grin

Next time try firm and assertive "No, sorry not possible." You don't have to roll over for chancers.

I must admit I've never booked a seat and not had a number either. Sometimes they don't have time to put those little tickets ion the back of the seat, but that's another story.

It must be a nightmare and completely unworkable. If your seat didn't have a ticket then anyone could sit in it and all the front facing table seats could be taken. What would you do then since you have no proof of booking a seat? Also the couple seemed to have booked seats, so why not you? Perhaps ask the train company why this happened.

They were rude. I think I'd pretend to be feeling really sick, perhaps you coul do a few gagging noises while they eat

I'd be more annoyed at myself for moving than at them.

Can't believe you moved. In similar situations you need to be assertive. Just a polite firm, "No, I'm sorry." However hard it feels to say this, that's for you to feel inside, and not show to others.

This is one of those occasions where 'they who shout loudest wins' sadly.

She pushed, you moved. Moral of the story? Don't be pushed around.
