Not pleasant but I do think the limit should be less than 24 weeks...you can literally have a baby born at 24 weeks that they're trying to save and another end of the hospital where one is being aborted...

Obviously I don't apply that to life threatening conditions but for stuff like Downs I think it's unfair.

Probably an unpopular opinion.

That's completely fake.

Ugh, I've seen this a couple of times over the last few days. I just reply with actual facts and probably get unfriended.

It's like an on going battle to have the right to control the contents of my uterus. Although what's going on in America at the moment is terrifying.

Whether the photo is fake or not, it's a horrible thing to share on Facebook (not having a go at you OP, you have a warning which is ok)

I've had miscarriages in the past, and at the time if I had seen this, I would have been very upset. People don't think of the consequences, I know it's meant to be a shock tactic, but it's very insensitive.

America should sort themselves out first having actual maternity leave and pay, then worry about other stuff later. America is just strange sometimes.
Well done to whoevers made a tiny plastic doll

That doesn't look real Confused

I had an abortion following a 20 week scan and we were warned that the skin would be dark in colour due to it not being completely formed, sorry can remember the full details. The baby did look as if she'd been under a sun lamp for too long (we are both very pale) and not a pinky white like that picture.

I don't have the full facts but I follow a lot of women's rights groups on fb who are based in the US. A great deal of people are trying to overturn the law, Roe vs Wade, which made safe abortion legal in America. It seems to have stemmed from politicians suggesting that planned parenthood should be defunded and has spiralled, very frighteningly.

Is that genuinely the size of a 12 week old foetus? I thought it was smaller than that. Seems quite large.

Fuck that though. We should have abortion on demand- it's disgusting that to decide what is or isn't in my own womb two doctors have to sign something that essentially says I'm a bit mad.

Sighing · 05/02/2016 09:44

Oh that's shite (on many levels). FFS. If i spot that one I'll report it.
Yes, it's awful to think some babies born at 24 weeks might have the slimest chance of life. But it is the slimest. The numbers are still very very low. Hence 24 as the cut off. I've miscarried, still would rather babies are born into the lives of parent/s in a good position and that women have choices, control, autonomy, respect and dignity with fertility above all things. I had a nurse for my D&C who dealt with I and a woman requiring abortion with sensitivity and respect. She was amazing. But all she did was give the care we needed as women in that (different but similar) situation.

So posted too soon- we should be focussing on how wrong that is, not how wrong abortion is. I'm grateful to live in a country where I know I never have to have a baby I don't want. I don't want that reversed.

The irony of course being that late abortion is more likely to occur where access to very early abortion is made difficult and this goes hand in hand with contraception being made difficult to obtain and poor/no realistic sex education in schools. At the same time in the US maternity leave is usually 6 weeks unpaid and acceptable (and I mean barely acceptable standards at which eyebrows would be raised here) childcare is unaffordable for large numbers of single working parents even on 2 or 3 jobs, and welfare support almost non-existent. So until that all gets fixed then I don't think pro-lifers are actually serious about wanting to prevent abortion are they?

That photo is of either a candle or a small art project, I forget which, but I've seen it before. I'll find a snopes link.

It's a clever piece of art that much is a given. But no woman should have to see this photo if they have ever had a miscarriage, abortion or contemplating one. It's just sick when at 12 weeks it looks nothing like a new born baby.

I'm not going to link to anything or indeed advise people to search, but there's a picture of an actual foetus miscarried at 12 weeks 5 days on the internet and it looks nothing like that.

Report
Krampus · 05/02/2016 09:51

Ahh, it's a model done by an artist of a 12 week fetus. The artist states that she couldn't getbthe skin right.

Warning down the bottom of this there is a photo of a real 12 week old fetus.

I used to work in paediatric pathology, part of which was dealing with pregnancy losses. I can say with 100% certainty that that picture is not what a 12 week old fetus looks like. It's far too big, too well-formed, and the wrong colour.

It's a despicable thing to post though.

WARNING: link contains picture of real 12 week foetus, which may be distressing

According to Snopes "...this image isn't a photograph of a real fetus. It's a picture of a hand-painted resin doll crafted by artist Donna Lee and sold through the One Tiny Life organization for the stated purpose of using them in schools and pregnancy centers to educate prospective mothers"

^Origins: The image displayed above, purportedly showing a 12-week gestational
fetus resting in the palm of an adult's hand, has been widely circulated via social media as a demonstration of how closely a 12-week-old fetus resembles a full-term child (even though the former may legally be terminated through elective abortion).

However, this image isn't a photograph of a real fetus. It's a picture of a hand-painted resin doll crafted by artist Donna Lee and sold through the One Tiny Life organization for the stated purpose of using them in schools and pregnancy centers to educate prospective mothers^

Actually I won't link because there is a photograph of an actual 12 week foetus beneath it and I don't want to upset anyone. You can find the original article if you search 12 week fetus and snopes.
