To think this is disgusting and should not be allowed

Man has given his sperm to 800 women, they pay him £50 which means his kids could meet each other when they're older.

AIBU to think this should lead to prove section?

bornwithaplasticspoon Thu 04-Feb-16 18:42:04

800? Jeez he's been busy.

Oysterbabe Thu 04-Feb-16 18:45:54

Should lead to what?

There's a lady on the conception board who made use of a similar service. I don't have a problem with it particularly. I guess the parents will have to explain the situation once the kids are of an age where they're sexually active so they can check whether their partner was conceived in similar circumstances.

notquitehuman Thu 04-Feb-16 18:48:44

None of his kids will be able to have casual sex when they grow up! "Err, before we get started I just wanted to check you weren't conceived by sperm donor. Cos I've got 799 half siblings..."

Pipistrella Thu 04-Feb-16 19:21:16

Are there not, I dunno, limits on this sort of activity? If only to stop this guy from completely taking over the gene pool of the equivalent of a small borough?

GreenishMe Thu 04-Feb-16 19:21:48

I'm not really sure how I feel about sperm donation. On the one hand I think it's great that it can help people....but on the other hand I wonder how it will affect the child when he/she reaches adulthood.

We already know how adopted and/or 'fatherless' kids can feel driven to find their birth parents because of the need to know their 'heritage'. How awful it must be to discover that there's no hope of ever finding out who your father is....of ever really knowing who you are?

Gunting Thu 04-Feb-16 19:23:00

Is this the guy who sells his sperm on Facebook selling pages?

Grim.

Vaginaaa Thu 04-Feb-16 19:24:19

That's cheap. Do you have his details? grin

willowsummers Thu 04-Feb-16 19:24:20

Through a licensed clinic, sperm donation is not anonymous and so you can track down your 'father.'

I wonder, Greenish if you therefore feel same sex couples, single women and hetrosexual couples with fertility problems or inherited conditions should simply abstain from parenthood?

And are your views the same for egg donors?

Pipistrella Thu 04-Feb-16 19:24:58

I know someone who tried using donated sperm, to conceive within a civil partnership, and despite three attempts it didn't work. So I think it's probably unlikely he actually has 800 children, if that makes sense. I'm not entirely sure what the success rate is with that method - or how much it's monitored after the goods leave the building, as it were...

VocationalGoat Thu 04-Feb-16 19:26:01

What a wanker, literally.

Gunting Thu 04-Feb-16 19:28:07

I don't think it's totally anonymous as I read an interview with him and he said for the past 10y he's had a baby born every week or something crazy.

Palomb Thu 04-Feb-16 19:28:26

I feel quite sorry for all of his kids! Using tracable donor sperm is one thing, buying sperm off the internet is something else entirely.

GreenishMe Thu 04-Feb-16 19:28:38

No Willow....my comments were simply a concern about how the children are affected. I didn't mention anything about anyone abstaining from parenthood....that was you.

Stop trying to cause a fight when there isn't

LadyIsabellaWrotham Thu 04-Feb-16 19:31:19

Greenish was specifically talking about anonymous donation willow, not donation through a UK clinic (or from a friend).

willowsummers Thu 04-Feb-16 19:32:34

I'm not trying to start a fight at all Greenish, but presumably the woman has to meet the man in these instances to obtain the sperm, so it isn't really anonymous in the way donated sperm from a clinic is, until the child turns 18 at any rate.

GreenishMe Thu 04-Feb-16 19:33:34

Ok Willow, thanks for that

Neverpolishghillies Thu 04-Feb-16 19:39:18

Good for him, if more men donated sperm then people who need it would have more choice.

I'm sure that parents that have gone to such great length to get child, will try to do their very best for them, and will educate their child about their origins and they will be able to make informed choices.

Veritat Thu 04-Feb-16 19:40:15

A cousin of DH's was born by artificial insemination by donor. She's a very well-adjusted 22 year old, not in any way bothered about the circumstances of her birth.

Atenco Thu 04-Feb-16 19:40:59

I agree with you Greenish. I am not a moral arbitrator and I'm sure sperm donation has allowed some very good people to become parents, but sooner or later children usually want to know who their father is.

Gruntfuttock Thu 04-Feb-16 19:46:58

"AIBU to think this should lead to prove section?"

confused I haven't the slightest idea what that means.

willowsummers Thu 04-Feb-16 19:47:38

Do you feel the same about egg donation, Atenco?

caroldecker Thu 04-Feb-16 19:51:39

If he did not go through a licensed clinic, he can be chased through the CSA for child support.

Brodicea Thu 04-Feb-16 19:58:06

Not THAT many people are looking around for spare sperm to make it likely that the offspring will procreate surely. Also even if he has 800 sales of his spunk, doesn't mean he has had 800 conceptions and 800 live births - total bollocks!

YakTriangle Thu 04-Feb-16 19:59:42

It's incredibly irresponsible to do this without any limits or checks in place. What happens when those children grow up if any of them accidentally end up in relationships with relatives that they didn't know existed? Stupid man.
