to think that a ham AND cheese sandwich is a teeny bit extravagant?

I know, I know!

We had friends round for the day this weekend and lunch was a "make your own sandwich" type affair, all bits out, put what you want in it. There was cheese, ham, tuna, salady bits, pickles and sauces etc.

Now my friend Bob* had ham AND cheese in his sandwich shock To me, that seemed like he was having two fillings in one sandwich - terribly indulgent grin

*Name changed to protect sandwich eater's identity ;)

Shrugs.
We have toasted ham and cheese croissants in our house. 😁

Ham and cheese sandwiches are wrong on all levels.

misskatamari Tue 02-Feb-16 10:00:55

Yabu, ham, cheese or ham and cheese are all perfectly acceptable sandwich combinations. Have you seriously never had a ham and cheese sandwich?! shock

HolgerDanske Tue 02-Feb-16 10:01:03

Ham and cheese is a perfectly acceptable sandwich filling.

But my favourite is bacon, tomato and avocado.

MuttonDressedAsMutton Tue 02-Feb-16 10:01:04

Blimey. shock I rarely make 'one ingredient' sandwiches. It is allowed you know!

Ham AND cheese? What next, lobster AND caviar?

hmm

OP how do you feel about a club sandwich?

Ham and cheese in a croissant?

The sheer indulgence!

grin

AdriftOnMemoryBliss Tue 02-Feb-16 10:01:25

Nope, ham an cheese is lovely.

Ham on its own is SO boring, and tastes of nothing, it NEEDS something else to give it a bit of zest... tomato or cheese are the only acceptable accompaniments!

Mrskeats Tue 02-Feb-16 10:01:27

seriously?? yabu
never go to a deli in America as they have sandwiches about a foot high with about 6 fillings

ExasperatedAlmostAlways Tue 02-Feb-16 10:01:32

Oh what a rude guest, never, ever speak to him again and perhaps send him a text explaining exactly why. How dare he have more than one of those fillings of that selection that was out to help himself to! Rude man.

lilproblem Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:16

What? Isn't that a pretty standard thing to do?!

00100001 Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:22

It's Okay, I have been known to partake in a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich :P

acasualobserver Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:24

Ham + cheese = perfect sandwich. I'm surprised there are still people who don't know this.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:47

Oh, this reminds me of a book I read as a child set in the Victorian era, I think it might have been The Peppermint Pig, and the mother goes, 'Butter OR jam, we can't afford such reckless luxuries any more.' It obviously made a great impression on me!

PuntasticUsername Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:47

"Butter OR jam, Phyllis dear, not butter AND jam".

JustWantMyMoneyBack Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:50

Not extravagant in the slightest. A bit minimalist if you ask me. What about lettuce, tomato and butter/mayo?

00100001 Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:51

I think I shall text him, maybe even bill him for the sandwich grin

PurpleDaisies Tue 02-Feb-16 10:02:55

Almost all sandwiches are improved by the addition of cheese.

BrianButterfield Tue 02-Feb-16 10:03:08

Oh yes, American sandwiches make ours look very sad indeed.

Both DH and DD love ham and cheese sandwiches!

NeedsAMousekatool Tue 02-Feb-16 10:03:10

My post reads more rude than jokey now that I can't change it. Sorry about that OP.

00100001 Tue 02-Feb-16 10:03:41

Ham and cheese and Marmite is actually the perfect sandwich casual

TheCountessofFitzdotterel Tue 02-Feb-16 10:03:51

Lol Puntastic! And on you too, clearly!

RonniePickering Tue 02-Feb-16 10:04:06

DP can't eat a ham sandwich without cheese on, the combination makes me feel sick.

00100001 Tue 02-Feb-16 10:04:12

I got your joke mouse :D
