I'm sick of the infantilisation of women. I fail to see why this woman should have been dealt with any less seriously than the young men who have done the same.

I'm far from being a 'hang 'em and flog 'em' supporter, but I strongly think she should have lost all access to her child, and have faced a serious custodial sentence.

Any potential ISIS supporters should see that there are serious punishments for this in order to act as a deterrent.

Being female is no excuse for being a fascist, which is what ISIS are.

It's her poor little boy that gets my sympathy

never mind jailing her i dont think she should be allowed back into the UK ever to live/visit etc

once she has served her sentence (3yrs ish good behaviour) what is there to stop her conversing with Isis related activities

take her passport away and send her back

also i think her son should be taken of her as she is a threat to his well being with her views and what she has put him through

I think the punishment is probably about right. I don't think we have any legal right to refuse to take her back once she'd changed her mind - I doubt the official regime in Syria would want to let her stay there. Apparently members of her family opined that the Court Case was a farce - but it wasn't clear why they thought that.

I think anyone involved with ISIS should have their children removed by SS. Her little boy should be removed on the grounds of child abuse.

I think she deserves the prison sentence. Things might not have been what she thought over there in terms of how she was treated but she knew full well what the group was about in terms of treatment of others. Anyone who can watch videos of people being beheaded, crucified, thrown off a building for being gay etc and think 'excellent, I'd like to bring my child up in that society' is obviously a twat.

However, the thing that worries me about the sentence is that other idiots who've taken their kids over there and fancy coming back might now think twice about it if they know they're likely to serve time. And as much as I'd love these people to stay over there I really, really feel for the kids - especially the girls - who've been taken to Daesh controlled areas. I want those kids back here and worry that this will act as a deterrent to their parents bringing them back.

So I don't know - really can't make my mind on it in general. But can certainly agree that she deserves it (which was your AIBU so in which case YANBU!).
