Christmas is ruined - school holidays

Just been checking the school holiday calendar for next year. Christmas is awful.

Break up on 23rd Dec, not back in school till 9th Jan. I'm screwed, first week of Jan is always busy at work.

What idiot thought this was a good idea?

by the way sorry for starting a Christmas thread in January

Great if you want a family Christmas at home and go skiing though misses the point

spanieleyes Sun 31-Jan-16 20:04:55

we break up on the 20th and go back on the 4th!

MorrisZapp Sun 31-Jan-16 20:05:20

When do they normally go back? That's standard dates in Scotland.

Savagebeauty Sun 31-Jan-16 20:06:28

Break up on 20th till 3rd here

PaulAnkaTheDog Sun 31-Jan-16 20:06:29

Normal dates where I'm from (Scotland). How do they usually fall?

MorrisZapp Sun 31-Jan-16 20:06:31

Thinking about it, an earlier breakup would be better. Filling the days pre Xmas always much easier than the hell of January.

Muchtoomuchtodo Sun 31-Jan-16 20:06:44

Where are you?

We're in South Wales and break up on 16th December and go back on January 3rd. I prefer your way tbh.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid Sun 31-Jan-16 20:06:56

Not in Scotland - spaniels dates would be more in line with what I think is sensible.

PrimalLass Sun 31-Jan-16 20:08:00

I love it that they break up late this year. We finished on the 18th in 2015 and it was far too early.

George2014 Sun 31-Jan-16 20:08:57

Urgh, I would hate to break up on 23rd dec....what about all the lovely pre Xmas excitement - visiting family, panto, Xmas films, walking around seeing the lights. How can they think finishing on Xmas Eve Eve is a good idea! As soon as new year is done you want the kids back at school, not a week later!

Bunbaker Sun 31-Jan-16 20:09:01

Our lot will break up on the 16th and go back on the 2nd Jan. Your school's holiday sound bonkers.

Muskateersmummy Sun 31-Jan-16 20:09:14

We are the same as muchtoomuchtodo

Artandco Sun 31-Jan-16 20:09:34

When were you thinking? This Xmas gone ds's had a month off. They were off 11th December- 11th Jan if I remember correctly

Elmersnewfriend Sun 31-Jan-16 20:09:43

Ha, I was annoyed we had it the other way round! I love breaking up late and going back late - those days pre- Christmas are painful!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid Sun 31-Jan-16 20:10:51

I'm of a similar mid to morris hate the period after Christmas before work. It's just dull - plus I'm now screwed for childcare (dh is always busy in Jan too and I don't want to "waste" 5 days holiday on time off in first week of Jan).

MadisonAvenue Sun 31-Jan-16 20:12:00

Just looked on the county council website and here they break up on the 16th and the new term starts on Jan 3rd.

ghostyslovesheep Sun 31-Jan-16 20:12:38

I'd much rather they broke up later - I hate that it's almost a week before Christmas this year - they go bananas!

HarrietSchulenberg Sun 31-Jan-16 20:13:09

Same here, and as I work in a school I am already slightly panicky about how I am going to get everything ready in time. I think I can assume there will be a lot of panic buying on Christmas Eve.

SellFridges Sun 31-Jan-16 20:14:02

We break up on the 16th which is ludicrously early in my opinion. That's almost 10 days before actual Christmas. They're back on the 3rd.

Groovee Sun 31-Jan-16 20:14:17

It was the same here last year. I wish they could finish a few days earlier.

Gobbolino6 Sun 31-Jan-16 20:14:23

Break up on 16th and back on 3rd here too.

TheHumanSatsuma Sun 31-Jan-16 20:15:12

Break up on the 21st , back on the 3rd

Dixiechickonhols Sun 31-Jan-16 20:16:31

Ours in Lancashire are finish Thursday 22nd back Monday 9th.

2nd - 6th Jan is a very odd time to fill, miserable weather and no christmassy activities.

Would have much preferred 16th December -2nd January.

Very hard if you are wanting to fly overseas to visit family for xmas.

dementedpixie Sun 31-Jan-16 20:16:40

In scotland and we have the same dates. Break up Friday 23rd and back Monday 9th. Was roughly the same this year but were back on the 6th january
