https://accessories.ee.co.uk/product/dgskbl/david_&_goliath/blonde_phone_sock_-_im_too_pretty_to_do_maths/

Found on the EE accessories shop.

I know it's a piece of pink printed tat but AIBU to think that telling young girls you can be either pretty or clever is absolutely shit?

Screenie here for anyone not happy to click the link

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland Sun 31-Jan-16 17:26:05

Dreadful, who on earth thought that would be acceptable?

Oysterbabe Sun 31-Jan-16 17:28:11

Urgh. That's horrific.

DraenorQueen Sun 31-Jan-16 17:28:45

What crap.

DeliciousIrony Sun 31-Jan-16 17:28:58

Perhaps it's a clever parody?? <clutches at straws>

Ifrit Sun 31-Jan-16 17:29:16

I was shopping for a new charger and decided to have a look at cases.

Of course DD was with me and wants me to buy it because it's pink and pretty and she likes the lady on it. She has no idea what it says (she's 4) but got a lecture on potential and limitations that probably went right over her head grin

theycallmemellojello Sun 31-Jan-16 17:29:37

Awful, awful.

specialsubject Sun 31-Jan-16 17:33:30

wow - it must be 1950 when you had to be pretty and thick to catch a decent husband, and I didn't notice.

that is unspeakable. Let's hope no-one buys it.

OzzieFem Sun 31-Jan-16 17:37:49

So is being pretty the modern day equivalent to being the old fashioned image of blond and dumb?

This is gender stereotyping and should be stopped. Similar to this.

RainbowDashed Sun 31-Jan-16 17:37:49

I despair, I really do, id have thought this sort of shite was outdated these days.

I wish I knew a maths, engineering or physics graduate, I buy her one all ironic like.

RainbowDashed Sun 31-Jan-16 17:39:49

I'd
Clearly I need some help from an English graduate hmm

BumpPower Sun 31-Jan-16 17:41:05

It is awful. David and goliath also do a range of clothing with the slogan "boys small, throw rocks at them" so I don't think they are general responsible retailers!!

BumpPower Sun 31-Jan-16 17:41:25

Smell! Not small

QueenofLouisiana Sun 31-Jan-16 17:43:57

Aaaaaarrrrggghh!

That's all I can think to say. Women spend their whole lives breaking down barriers to education, equal opportunities etc to get that. FFS.

EdithWeston Sun 31-Jan-16 17:44:38

It's bloody awful.

It's nowhere near clever enough to be "ironic". And what it actually says is horrid.

MaisyMooMoo Sun 31-Jan-16 17:46:24

Well apparently we shouldn't get to worked up about it as it's only a bit of fun and no one takes these things seriously anyway. Or so it was said on a similar thread.

^^

monkeysox Sun 31-Jan-16 17:46:26

Wtaf that's horrendous

Groovee Sun 31-Jan-16 17:50:35

Oh man, Dd HATES maths and we've had to get a tutor in. She would use this against me!

Andrewofgg Sun 31-Jan-16 17:54:21

who on earth thought that would be acceptable?

Someone who thinks it will sell. And, alas, may be right.

Ifrit Sun 31-Jan-16 17:54:28

Response from EE to the comment I posted on their FB page:

Thank you for your input on this accessory. We try to cater to a lot of different tastes - humor being the option in this accessory's case. We do apologize if you have found it to be offensive, I'm sure the designers didn't mean for this message to be taken seriously but simply as a silly jest.

Either way, we take everyone's feedback into account and I will send an insight form report with your review on this matter, thank you.

Realise this outs me so going to name change for all threads except this one!

lavendersun Sun 31-Jan-16 17:57:39

I have a maths degree Rainbow ... Buy me one grin.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

I am a blonde chartered accountant. I would have loved this as a young professional for every time I went into a room full of middle aged men.

BeyondBootcampsAgain Sun 31-Jan-16 18:09:02

I kind of view the david and goliath stuff like that as taking the piss out of people who genuinely have those views?
