This is all over the news so most people are probably aware of the story but just a quick warning that this is upsetting and is about patients with dementia in care homes being treated badly.

Obviously she/they should never work with the elderly again but I would personally like to see them go to jail for elderly abuse for a long bloody time.

It really does scare me. I think of my mum getting dementia one day and being treated like that and it scares me, like I'm sure it does everyone.

In one of the comments someone said she worked there and reported abuse before but she ended up getting sacked for it.

I guess there will be a lot of people lining up to tell this monster just what they think of her now her name is released.

Unfortunately we live in a culture that does not encourage respect for the elderly.

Our society is very materialistic and the basic necessities of life are very expensive. People are living longer and needing care that families often cannot provide due to lack of space and money.

The care home industry is big business yet carers are among the lowest paid in our economy.

I have personal and professional experience of care homes/nursing homes and dementia units. Many of the homes/staff are kind, caring and well meaning but training is generally poor.

Often, pupils who come out of school with no GCSEs are advised to seek employment as care assistants. Some of these people may be kind, caring individuals, but caring for dementia sufferers is a highly skilled job and requires the ability to learn, intuitive and communication skills and a reasonable level of intelligence. A personal sense of ethics and integrity is vital due to the vulnerability of the residents.

The CCQ is generally hopeless and ineffectual.

It is a sad state of affairs. I can't see things improving TBH.

personally i have thought for along time care homes and nurseries should by law have CCTV cameras's installed

the young and old are the mot vunrable in our society and should be protected

I've thought that too. I've also thought that it both professions should be held in a much higher regard.

My GF works in caring and the wages etc are dreadful. these people are looking after vulnerable people, working with medicines, caring for them etc and yet she's no better thought of or better paid than someone handling tins of beans on a supermarket shelf. (That's no knock at shelf stackers btw, i was one )

I often care for people with dementia in hospital and it is hard work, there's no doubt about it.

I had to sit with a patient for 4 hours once and he kept repeating things over and over and trying to pull out things he shouldn't pull out and trying to wander around and he was a falls risk. It was probably the most stressful 4 hours of my work life but my heart broke for him because he was so bloody scared and lost. While I found it extremely stressful I can't imagine wanting to do anything to add to his fear and confusion.

I have come across many lovely staff members and many who seemed a bit jaded by it all and weren't exactly caring. It does overshadow those who genuinely care. If I ever get to the stage of not caring I'm out of my job straight away.

How anyone can sit there and taunt a vulnerable person is just beyond my imagination and sadly I know there is a lot of people who do.

I can understand slightly jaded and going through the motions but this cruelty is really chilling.

I hate that we pay and rate those who care for babies, the ill, the elderly and disabled so little. It creates fast staff turn over, resentment, those unsuited and untrained but available being given too much responsibility. Fucking terrifying
