Done all the chopping, now I am softening all the orange peel in my slow cooker. Then once it's done I'll transfer it all to my preserving pan ready for the big boil up with the sugar. Has anyone tried this method? Does it work?

So what part do you think is unreasonable? Confused

This is a stealth marmalade boast, not AIBU.

No and who cares.

It's just all the recipes say to boil the shit out of the peel for a couple of hours. I'm just wondering if I can save energy by doing the first part in the slow cooker.

I care, I'm deeply disappointed because I was excited someone managed to be BU about marmalade and this is a very sorry attempt at a stealth boast.

I have a marmalade aibu. Is it unreasonable for DH to have at least 2 jars of open marmalade at all times and sometimes more even though he's the only one who eats it? Why open another jar?! Finished the other one first. goes of muttering about nearly empty jars and precious counter space...

Someone in the Recipe Topic may understand your dilemma, I couldn't give a shite, sorry.
Wouldn't mind hearing Queenbeans' joke though.

Nigella's method works best where you boil/simmer the fruit whole which we do in the slow cooker very low overnight.
But really - marmalade has no place in AIBU unless it's being smeared on someone's naked buttocks against their will Grin

Ginger, are they different?

Because all marmalade is different, have two on the go sometimes, one French Bonne maman, which is sweeter and a proper dark bitter one, depending on what I feel like.

Yanbu to worry about how long to cook the peel for. Undercooked peel goes all hard and horrible when you add the sugar. Boil it until lit is really really soft and yes, you can do that In the pressure cooker.

Ok I'm slightly backing out here because it is so rude and I don't want to be accused of being a sexist etc.... but the link is here for anyone foul minded. Don't say I didn't warn you!!

sigh they are different marmalades. Fortunately were now down to only two open jars of piccalilli. He hasn't realized yet that I've thrown out several unopened jars of his homemade marmalade before Christmas. To be fair they were several years old and I don't know if they'd have been safe for consumption.
