Not an aibu, sorry but I am posting for traffic.

My Mum has COPD, heart failure and PP MS. Admitted to hospital Tuesday with flu, home wed but is getting worse not really eating, struggling to walk, unable to stand by the self and confidence issues.she is getting steadily worse.

Do we get out of hours doctors, wait until tomorrow for GP or contact adult social services tomorrow? I feel cometely lost.

Thanks in advance.

Start with calling the doctors and go from there. He may come out and visit then send her back into hospital.

Depends- is she able to mobilise at all? If not, give NHS24 a call, they can either arrange an appt or home visit with GP if necessary. If she can get up and manage things like toileting, depends whether you feel it is urgent and she cannot wait until Monday to be seen by your own GP.

In our area we have prevention of admission (POA) teams, who can step in urgently for extra help when needed but the patient does need to be able to mobilise to get to the toilet etc as the POA team can only visit up to 4 times daily. We also have GP beds in the community hospital, which can be used at the discretion of the GP/OOH GP for patients who are struggling at home but don't need admission to an acute hospital. I guess all of this depends on the services available in your area.

I am adult social worker. My advice would be ring gp first. Social services won't step in until they know it's not a medical issue. My authority also has an emergency team that will try and prevent readmission. The gp is the person who refers to this team. Don't wait tho..ring gp!
